MetroPCS MS631 LG G Stylo SIM Unlock

Is the only way to unlock it, with Unlock app in Metro folder (like Tmobile)
Or can you still buy a cheap code from eBay

Im guessing, still 3 months of service for the App Unlocker

Barring buying an unlock code online, which is usually most expensive when a phone is new ($30 or so),& drops in price as the phone is out a while, you'll likely have to pay/use 3 months of service before Metro will unlock it/give you the code to do it yourself.
That's what was explained to me when I bought mine in-store yesterday (7/10/15).

The real question was, "can you unlock it with a code" like older phones

I don't believe the answer is yes. You have to unlock it with the MetroPCS or TMobile unlocker app, pre-installed on the phone. It has to call back to verify somewhere.

Just for giggles,I just bought an unlock code from a service that has worked for me in the past (less than $10).
Code should be showing up within minutes,I'll keep you posted.......................

It appears you are correct.
I did get an unlock code, but,no way to enter it,as you're presented w/a full-screen notice that basically just tells you to use the Device Unlock app.
This is even the case w/the Device Unlock app frozen/disabled on my rooted MetroPCS Stylo.
I'm not gonna try to circumvent the unlock,as I agreed to the terms when I bought my phone (cost of device & 3 months of paid service).
The phone was heavily discounted vs the T-Mobile variant,so,I can't blame MetroPCS for the 90-day period/service before unlocking the device.
There may be a way to use dialer codes to access this, but, honestly,I don't need to unlock my phone, just curious more than anything & perhaps others will read this thread & save themselves a few $ by not buying an unlock code.

OK,it's been just past the 90-Day mark & I've successfully SIM Unlocked my MPCS Stylo via the Device Unlock app.
Nothing magical, just follow the prompts & it's a go.(I had to call MPCS to kick 'em in the arse,it wasn't working until I hung up w/them).
I've seen/read where rooted devices may run into issues, but,I've kept mine restored to unrooted out-of-box condition since using DrakenFX's restore method:
http://androidforums.com/threads/rom-lg-g-stylo-h631-ms631-v10j-stock-restore.949196/
(Again,MANY THX!),so,I can't verify for root.
Also seems MPCS's list of BYOD's is extremely limited ATM,neither my T-Mobile Note5 or AT&T G Flex2 will work on MPCS,so,I'll be porting my MPCS number over to T-Mobile tomorrow.

I am still learning. Is this so I could take my phone to a different carrier? Sorry for the newbie question.

General FYI
After 4.5 months with this model(7 years metro) the unlocker app reported phone ineligible.
Purchased at metro exclusive authorized dealer(sell nothing else besides metro).
The following don't have anything to do, just posting the data points:
still on original stock 5.0xx,
unrooted(still playing around with Android Pay)
on insurance plan(3 such payments allow buying any handset at sale price even if ineligible otherwise + flew away for the summer, I've made 5 ins. payments- will cancel now that I'm back).
Gonna call now, see what's up n will report back here.

I just checked my records:
June xx I bought this phone AFTER June bill paid(replaced stolen phone no insurance coverage). Annnddd...
October billing date NOT here YET.
Soooo, I won't even call... I can guess the answer:
Payment/service for June xx(thru July xx) likely counts under previous model / the 90+ days officially begin July xx... making not quite 90 official days thus far.

In case it's supposed to be "more than" 90 + I paid a day late in July, I'll retry two days after paying this month's bill, although the months actually had 31 days.

Hope this helps someone in a similar situation.

PS no more insurance.
Price has dropped / would still have to pay something out of pocket / better to pay more and get better, new tech.

Unlocking update(or two or three or...):

Waited coupla days after billing date, but still received your device(I'm on stylo) not eligible for unlocking message.

1. CS explained it's because "you still have to call us so we can push a button here approving the unlock"...(I'll let yous characterize that)...

2. Unlock app magically disappeared upon success n reboot(Mr. Snowden, pls take note).

3. Besides the app shortcut inside Metro folder shortcut,
reportedly there was also an unlock shortcut in Settings "at the bottom".

4. 611 quickly turning into Automated System From HELL.
Seems to be getting progressively hardened to screen access to live rep.
As well the automated voice is agonizingly much more chatty, with a speaking to a first grader manner.

I may have forgotten the trick commonly used... But besides that, in the past an unexpected/unintelligible/French answer would connect you to a live person much quicker.

What if you're on a previously owned device?

Then do I have to pay 3 months first in order to be unlocked, or could I possibly already unlock it now.
