Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] Anyway to download stock message app

sdb209

Newbie
Im new to the whole root your phone deal.
I did the root a few weeks ago, and also deleted some apps I didn't need. The messaging app one of them, so I have to use chomp sms. I did not back it up, which is totally my fault. I do not like the messaging apps in playstore.

Is there anyway to re install the app without restoring the phone to factory settings?

If someone uploads it for you then yes. But until then check out 8sms. That's what I use. Activate standalone mode in the settings tho, since your stock one is deleted. It's just the actual stock messaging app from Kitkat and it's really nice. It isn't an alternative. It's a real stock one.

Gosms also has a stand alone feature if you have removed the stock sms app. I have uninstalled the stock sms myself, as it's crap IMO.I you just absolutely want the stock sms, I will upload it for you.

OK, download this zip and extract the contents, you should have two files, UniMessagebin.apk and UniMessagebin.odex.

I will use ES File Explorer for the following steps, as it is free from Playstore.

1. Copy those two files from pc to the external sd on your phone.
2. In Es File Explorer, press the icon in top-left corner (globe w/phone), scroll down to "Root Explorer" and make sure it's on. Now touch the word "Root Explorer" and this will open a menu. Press "Mount R/W" and mark "/system" RW.
3. Copy those files to the "/system/app" folder.
4. Now you have to set permissions and owner.
5. Long press on UniMessagebin.apk and it should be highlighted with a check mark. Now press the "More" icon in lower-right corner and choose "Properties".
6. In properties menu, go to permissions and change to:
Owner - Read Write
Group - Read
Other - Read
Now change the owner and group to "root". After making all changes, press the back button or press cancel.
7. Now that UniMessagebin.apk is edited, repeat steps 5-6 for UniMessagebin.odex.
8. After both files have been edited, reboot your phone and the messaging app should be installed :)
