Root [MetroPCS & T-Mobile] seeking t-mob & pcs kernel

Hey guys, i'm looking for a T-mobile & Metro pcs recovery kernel or recovery image. I'm looking to port TWRP recovery from Virgin Mobile over to this side of this phone.

I'd prefer a fresh recovery.img so I can extract the zimage or just a zimage by it's self would be great. Also I would love a couple of testers once it's been ported.

I've noticed a few of you guys are coming over to the virgin mobile sub forum and installing our recoveries with success but once you install a rom, some errors pop up. Its due to incompatible kernels. If I can get the correct ones from you guys, i'll be able to set you up. You'll have a good recovery of your own.

Just fyi, I haven't really checked out your sub forum so i'm not sure where you guys stand. I see you have a custom kernel and a few roms. No custom roms from what I can tell. all just stock based.. We have one custom rom that's in alpha stage. CM10. The rest are stock based. One custom kernel as well. I'm working on the device tree for cm10 now. I haven't posted it yet. It's getting close to being finished. I don't want to post a device tree that doesn't compile to a booting rom. Shouldn't be much longer though. Maybe a week til it's finished. The rom it's self has issues.

It also looks like GameTheory has moved on. I'll ask him to confirm. I see all of his previous posts are now just "delete".. Sounds like a Cyberman from Dr. Who.

Thank you.

edit: Yeah, I just talked to him. he's moved on.

I have not moved on. The posts that were deleted were in a testing thread and were no longer needed.

At the bottom of your post it says that you talked to me. Well it wasn't me you talked to.

Yes everything is working perfectly as it did with clockworkmod and is great. You need to make a thread for this like NOW :)

Edit: Now we need people to test out button combos to boot into recovery.

Volume down + power does the whole factory reset thing like it's always been doing. I didn't test it out, but I think it should boot into recovery after doing the factory reset like with CWM, but I'm not sure about it and I can't assume without someone actually testing it out.. And just so you don't ask, volume up+power does absolutely nothing but turn it on.

Here's a temporary link if anyone else wants to try it.

roadkill42, sorry I didn't respond. i've been having internet issues all day.

To flash, just download and install flashify (for root users) from google play and flash with it. Make a backup of your current recovery first. Your phone will need to be rooted.

This seems to work great, so far I have not found any problems. It replaced CWM completely and is the recovery now and everything boots alright with no bricks or bootloops. Congrats on being able to make this correctly :D

It's just a port of the one I made for the Virgin Mobile f3. All I did was switch the kernel out with yours. Gherkaul helped fix some of the bugs I was having with it.

In what methods do you get into it? Do you only boot into it using Power+Volume Down? Or do you use other methods?

I boot into recovery using gravity box with the "advanced power menu" option. It "probably" will wipe data if I do, but I don't want to try it out just yet. ADB reboot recovery I'm not sure about

I had no problems with it with the freedom kernel and twrp using an option like you mentioned above.

The adb reboot recovery is basically the same thing. Instead of doing it with you phone, your issuing that command in your computer through the usb connection. 'usb debugging' would need to be turned on.

This may be an improvement because with PlayfulGod's Clockworkmod recovery, adb reboot recovery triggered the factory reset. I'm not sure is this TWRP fixes that or if its just because you have a Virgin Mobile F3. Just to make sure, does it ask for you to factory reset or does it just reboot into recovery directly?

Yup as you said it reboot into TWRP recovery directly without any option to factory reset or anything. I rebooted on and everything was fine so it does not wipe data.
