Help mic on headphone not working

SONY DR-E10IP headphones

the mic didnt work at all before
then a couple of weeks ago there was a software update and the headphones with mic worked
now 2 days ago the mic isnt working as well people say i sound far away or muffled
tried different headphone same problem
please help

The mic has never worked? this sounds like a hardware issue if I've ever heard of one. Promptly return it for one that functions.
