Micro SD from Ebay query.

Good Morning.

I purchased a 64gb Micro SD card for my S4 last week. Having tried it out last night, I'm starting to think it's a knock off one that displays that it's got 64gb memory, but only has about 2-3gb.

I haven't bought a memory card for years and was quite oblivious as to how expensive memory cards are, even though I normally have a quick read up about any purchases. So far I've got the first Lord of the Rings film and an album on there, as well as a few free games from the market place. I tried to upload another film this morning but it was unable to complete, I was unsure if this was due to the format or if it was a knock off.

So my question is this, is this likely to be a knock off?

eBay is rife with counterfeit cards unfortunately and generally speaking, if it looks to good to be true, it is :(

Run an app on your PC called H2testw, that should tell you what the real capacity of the card is.
 
Sadly, the anwer to your question is yes, you have almost certainly been ripped off. Four times that would have been a fair price.


Google h2testw and you will find the standard testing application for SD cards. If you tell eBay that you have used this utility to test the card and it failed, they will accept that it is a fake card.

I use eBay a lot but I would not buy flash memory on eBay ever. The majority of cards on sale are fake. It's just not worth the hassle, look elsewhere.
 
Play.com is a fairly well known web retailer that I have used several times without any problem although their customer service doesn't have a great reputation. They won't sell you a fake card though.

Personally, I'd stick with Amazon assuming that it's Amazon themselves and not Amazon Marketplace.

PS don't forget to leave negative feedback for the seller. These people know perfectly well that they are selling fake cards and not leaving negative feedback means they can carry on ripping people off.
 
Hi guys, thanks for your responses. Yes, the item is an 8gb card in a 64gb dress, even says it on the card! I've requested a refund and reported him to ebay in an attempt to stop other people getting mugged off.

Thanks for you help guy I've helped myself to an official Samsung 64gb card to soften the blow!
 
Same thing happened to me on eBay. I requested refund & reported it to eBay. Less than 24 hrs after doing so I had a complete refund & the seller did not request the item back. I then went and purchased a Samsung 64gb Pro class 10 card. Had them on sale for $49.99 at Best Buy at the time.
 
If you are careful, eBay is great and I would buy most things that aren't too expensive on eBay. Flash memory is an exception. Most flash memory on sale seems to be fake.

I have bought about 500 items on eBay and saved myself a fortune in the process. However, every now and then a transaction goes wrong (only about 5 times in all those purchases) and that is just a risk you have to accept if you are paying under the odds.
