Help microSD card issues with Samsung Galaxy S3

Hi there. I've my had my 16gb microsd for a few years now and my galaxy s3 a year and a bit. I've once had issues with formatting but it was resolved quickly and didn't reoccure. Im now having an issue where it seems that everythings been wipped off my sd as its saying i have 14.8/14.8gb free. when i click on the folder it has about 20 blank somethings with just characters like c, C, C, C?@, m, o ,y just stuff like that. Does anyone know whats wrong with it or whether i can recover it. Any help would be much appriciated

There's a separate thread here about the S3 killing SD cards -- and I've gone through 3 sd cards myself.

As to file recovery, results vary -- some say they got stuff back, but in my experience, using three different apps with three different cards resulted in NO files recovered.

Myself even as i have used Sandisk memory cards for many years in digital cameras, I bought a genuine 32 gb Samsung memory card for my Galaxy S3,i don't know who the real Mfg. is, but it gives me someone to deal with if and when it ever fails that may give me some real help. So far it's worked very well.:)

Indeed. SD card failures are a common occurance with this phone; lots of chatter about it online. I've got a 2013 Sandisk Ultra 64gig, and those are allegedly updated to work fine. I've had it for at least 3 months now without any issues. Once I pass the 6 month mark, I'll feel even better.

I cant get my pictures that move to my external and when I try to change it over to my files and making new file it won't let me make a new file and thenit says it the move has failed when I just tried to transfer it to an already existing file.can anyone please help me out?

How are you trying to move them? Are you using ES File Explorer? Or are you trying to change the folder where pictures are saved within the camera app?

I'm having the same trouble. I would like to know both ways you mentioned. Please explain.

If you want the camera to store images to the external memory card directly, you open the camera settings (looks like a gear) and scroll down to STORAGE. Your options will be "phone" or "memory card".

If you want to move your images, install ES File Explorer from google play.

Along the top, there are some icons that show you whche folder you are in. One of them has an arrow in the lower right corner. Tap that to change folders. The built in memory is "sdcard0" and camera pictures are stored in a folder called "DCIM". If you long-press on one of the images, it will be check-marked, and you can then tap all the other images you want to move. I suggest CUT as the operation, and then PASTE when you navigate to the folder you want to put them in.

If you change your camera storage to "memory card", the phone should setup the directory for you. Take one picture to get the folder established, and then move the rest into that folder.

Pasting is pretty easy too. The PASTE option remains at the bottom of the screen once you have something copied or cut.

There is also a MOVE-TO option if you don't want to CUT/PASTE but I never use that, so you'll have to figure that one out yourself :)

I just realized that it's been 9-10 months so far with my 64gig Sandisk Ultra micro SD card. No issues to report. :D
