Help Midknight ROM Issues...

Okay everyone, first, hello. Second, awesome site for a bunch of reasons. One, a section is actually devoted to the V. B, great ROM's. And 3, members here are helpful as well as the developers. So that's my unasked two cents.

However, of course I have issues... I just downloaded the latest MidKnight ROM and like before, am having 4G issues. I also noticed that the kernel has been updated as well but I'm still stuck on 3.0, so I'm not sure if I need to separately flash the kernel or if it came with the ROM. (Sigh, yes, my noobishness is showing:(

Either way as fast as it is, and the fact that its developed for the V, and with a wee bit added benefit of having the developer always updating and attentive, I have to say I'd really like to stay with this ROM... Especially considering my DD is MikVirgin, last updated over a year ago... A year people!

Anyway, any thoughts suggestions or critiques are appreciated.

it should flash with the rom too, the 4g issues may be radio related the rom itself is very stable, but you could also try posting this in the midnight thread where more people who know about midnight can say, i was a long time user of midnight and it was flawless :D

Yeah, in fact I checked it out and noticed a few people had posted 4G issues and no one ever got back to them. But at least I know now that the kernel goes with the ROM... So any idea why I might still be stuck with the old kernel? I'm betting my issues may be related to that. (Again, taking into account I'm a greenhorn... What's a greenhorn?)

EDIT: Also, thanks for the reply! Should have said that first.

Im just wondering if that's the nature of the beast (4g). I get 4g (8mbps) download speeds at my home but if I drive 10 miles all I get is the 4g menubar icon accompanied with an exclamation mark. This is because, 10 miles away, I am out of the 4g network. Im on the midnight rom too.

Depends what you mean by 'issues' - VM has notoriously 'binary' coverage. Its either awesome or non-existent. :) No matter what rom you are on.

Oh the 4G is def the beast! Problem is it just won't turn on while it works fine with MikVirgin and stock as well. I also noticed the kernel didn't update or change with the newest MidKnight, so I'm wondering if it's my phone and how to fix the issue.

But yes, I have seen a few ROM's that don't make a squats worth of difference when it comes to reception!

Edit: And yeah, I reflashed again and still the old kernel and not the updated one that was mentioned on the download page... I thought that would have fixed the 4G issues.

Tell me this, a friend just suggested that it's because I never went through the "make the V a 3D" process. Before the eggs and tomatoes are thrown, does he have a point? (I also have s-on)

It's because you are s on. You must flash the boot.img separately or use 4ext recovery and enable the smart flash setting

It is a setting in the recovery that allows you to flash kernels without having to flash the boot.image separately. you need to buy the 4ext recovery app to get it. well worth the money
it is also availible on the free version

Use 4EXT with smart flash turned on and you should not have a problem. Make sure to wipe everything first system, cache, dalvik, etc. I just flashed the newest MNR via 4EXT and did not have any hitches.
