Root Might be hope.... "Might"

So android 4.4 is very near and rumors are that it has a new kernel which allows lower spec & lower processor devices like ours n even lower is said to get this update. They said devices that are even running 2.2 (froyo) can get the update due to the new kernel. Now they did say that it won't come from Google but if the device manufacture wishes to give us this update then so be it as well as the carrier or if a developer is willing to go about this for us.... Well rumors but what do you think?

Do you have a source for that?

Kernels have to be built for the device its running on, so I don't see a new kernel making a difference in getting it to run on older devices.

My guess is that Google is simply going to add more of its stock android applications to the android market for anyone to download, install, and keep updated without the manufacturers or carriers involved.

Well I don't have source but the rumor did say "android 4.4 kitkats new kernel (something to do with the kernel) which makes it possible for devices with lower specs to see 4.4 and of course we'll have to get the source but all rumors until it's released and more details will follow.

Sorry, that's what I meant. :o Where did you see the rumor? Can you link it? I'm interested to read it myself, that's all :)

Oh all I have to say if the rumors are true... Samsung better bring us the update and you killah, better make a sexy killah-bean rom based on it :D

Edit: the rumors are real.. they used a Linux kernel which allows low-end devices to get it.

But I don't think Samsung will officially get us that update... I think they forgot about good ol' rookie admire :( hope a Dev gets to it if Samsung does not.

Wow thanks for the insight on the "rumor" ... I didn't really check back at it for a while, but dam , we might see 4.4 on the admire... That's if a dev or metro decides to push it. And never say never Samsung might give us a token.

Just to temper expectations... ;)

Just because they used a kernel that uses less memory doesn't mean manufacturers are going to support older devices. It doesn't make sense for them to do so. They'd much rather have you buy a new device rather than them spend money to keep you from buying a new device.

Couple that with the huge memory requirements of touchwiz/sense/ect and I don't think much will change.

Only time will tell, and well know before too long

That may be but Microsoft did the same thing with Windows 7. Software manufactures realize that not everybody wants the greatest newest most expensive piece of equipment and they need to cater to everybody. Even if manufactures don't support the older devices it doesn't mean the community won't. Older devices are capable of running then somebody will make it work.

Well the Samsung admire can't get 4.4 for sure " Android 4.4 KITKAT is designed to run on many devices, even entry-level ones with as little as 512MB of RAM." ... Not a rumor.

Well I'm sure if we still had some large amounts of devs... at least one would've tried to optimize it... or that's not possible either... for someone to make it run on our device.
