Might pull the trigger on my first Android phone...only if this problem is solved though.

Hi guys, I have been using iOS since the iPhone 3G came out and haven't even given android a single thought since. But with the reason announcement of the iPhone 4s, since I already own an iPhone 4 I thought why not give android a try for a year?

So I found out about the Nexus Prime (Galaxy nexus) and thought I would give it a shot once it comes out. Here is the problem though, I do not live in the United States and I know the Android Market Place is region locked. Now when I pay for a device I expect to use its App Store to its full potential, hence why with my iPhone I went through a few loopholes to gain access to the US Store. Things like Pandora, Google Earth, etc are no available in my region.

Anyways long story short, I messed around with my friends Nexus S, rooted it, and installed Market Enabler which essentially bypasses the region lock. Here is the problem though, I can actually see the US Market Place right now, but search functionality is not working at all, when I search I only get movies and books, no apps. I set my country to T-Mobile USA btw if that's of any relevance. We also tried Verizon with no luck.

Also right now when we access the market place on a website, it tells us that the applications cannot be downloaded in my region for ANY of the apps, even ones we downloaded before. So basically right now this is the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on an Android Phone. Any thoughts or experiences in regards to this problem guys?

What market version is on the phone? From what I understand, ver 3.1.5 is not working with market enabler on some phones yet, because it's relatively new. Try uninstalling updates to the market on the phone and try again. You may want to check the nexus s forums here or on xda to see if anyone else has run into this problem.

What country is this? Only the paid market is region locked and locked to 33 different countries right now. Probably more now. Free apps should be downloadable everywhere except in China where it gets blocked by the Chinese government. Even here, there are alternative sites where people download their apps.

Note: some games are blocked in certain countries due to local laws.
