minor boo boo deleting sys apps

arcybarrios

Newbie
Ok so I got a little excited once I learned how to delete crap apps and didn't think that any of the ones I deleted would cause any issues... WRONG!

I of course created a nandroid and a titanium backup prior to going crazy deleting things.

Now, where do I go fetch these apk's that I deleted to re-install? An easy step by step would be great as I am still learning the lingo and ropes of navigating the phone. Is there a good samaritan out there than can zip these for me?!?!?

NewsReader.apk

RSS.apk
Stock.apk

FriendStream.apk
com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk
SocialNetworkProvider.apk
IM.apk

Cheers:o

I'm quite sorry to say this, but I wold be surprised if one could find all those. And, if i'm not mistaken, isn't it against the forum rules to post .apks or something?

If I were you, I would just restore from your Nandroid, and start slowly when doing things like this. Hey, matter of fact, I think the updated Titanium Backup lets everyone, even free users, freeze and defrost apps, so maybe you could just find out the problematic apps and fix the issues.

Something else that may be worth looking into: I have heard of hackers popping open their Nandroid backups and extracting the .apks for apps, but I honestly haven' t done this before.

And before I go, did you full on root? Or did you do this when you had some sort of soft-root that goes away after a reboot that everyone seems to like these days?

I did a Google search, and XDA search, and I couldn't find those .apks for you. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place, but I came up with no success.

I have read so many forums in the past three weeks that I have absolutely no clue anymore... I am going blind hahahahaha :p

As a matter a fact, I restored the backup I created prior to getting the Acccounts and Sync error. I am starting from square one today once again and what you are suggesting is exactly what I will do; freeze certain apps prior to deleting them. This way I will know exactly what applications NOT to delete lol.

For this I only looked into the update.zip file but not the rest. I think I am to much of a noob to get my hands down and dirty with the hard stuff hahahahaha

I went the whole nine yards; fully rooted

You are an angel!! Thank you so much for taking the time tohelp me search. You had to be from Texas, my beautiful home state! We Texas are always willing to lend a hand! :p

Pulling then from your nandroid is simple. Let me know if you want to try this route or if you already started from scratch.

Kelmar where were you 12 hours ago :( snif! I did a full nandroid recovery and starting from scratch BUT would it still be possible to take you up on your offer? If you could let me know how to pull them out of nandroid that would be fantastic!;)

You mean 24 hours ago ;)

Take the nandroid from your SD card and copy it to your desktop computer. It should be in the form of a .zip file. Using winrar (free trial HERE) double click on the zip file. DO NOT EXTRACT ANYTHING.

Navigate to /system/app and drag and drop the .apks to your SD card.

Once on your SD card use a file manager such as "Root Explorer" to copy the .apks from the SD card back into the /system/app folder.

Sit back and stare at the amazing OS that is Android and love your phone all over again!

It was my understanding that one had to use 7zip to navigate the .zip files associated with Android? Maybe it doesn't matter, it's just a recurring thing I hear all the time.

Actually it was 12 or so hours by the time I received your reply as I had waited a full day after posting before I restored =/

On the bright side... it would have been sooooooooooooo easy to just have done what you explained above!

I am adding the piece of information to the document I am creating with my How To's for easy access!!

Thanks a million kelmar!!! :D

@iliketrains as far as I know it doesn't matter what program you use as long as you can open zip or rar files. I myself use 7zip as well.

Hey, would you mind if I added this information to the root guide I wrote a few days ago? I'm sure if it could help you, it might help any unfortunate soul that managed to mess up their ROM. I know it would have been nice to know this when I was trying to install a TouchWiz ROM, and I deleted a ton of system apps. :o

by all means! If Kelmar doesn't mind:D

that's what these forums are for, to help each other out. The more things are dumbed down for us noobs the better we understand hahahahaha It can be overwhelming!! You are holding the phone in your hands and thinking "right so now what do I do" all of sudden you enter the world of android and you are worst than Dorothy looking for OZ hahahahaha

No worries, that's what we are here for. :)

Now you know for future use! :D

@Iliketrains - Feel free. 7zip, winrar, doesn't matter... whatever works. :)
