Miren Browser

I want to check out the Miren browser on my Nitro, but it's no longer available in the Market. I've found it elsewhere, but to install I have to allow 3rd party installations.

Is this safe? What's the reason the Market no longer has it?

It is probably not safe if it has been removed from the market.

I saw a version at XDA that has the "Chrome.apk" that is really Miren in disguise. I tried it, it is Miren (but does work on Gingerbread!). Didn't like it (but it was fast). Back to Xscope, only one I found that will pinch-zoom all mobile pages and display them nicely.

Apps are pulled off the Market for any one of the following reasons:

It's malicious and Google removes it.

It violates copyright laws and it is removed by the author under legal pressure or Google for the same.

The author removes it for whatever reason. Some authors have removed their apps because of all the harassing emails and bad comments. ShootMe comes to mind for that. I still have a copy of ShootMe hanging around in my Titanium Backup directory in case I ever need it. It was a good app.

There are probably more reasons, but those are the more common ones.

As for a good browser, I'd recommend Boat or Boat Mini. I liked it more than Dolphin. Dolphin seemed clunky to me.

Yeah, GrooveIP was pulled for a week because it was called "Groove IP-Google VOIP"... they had to change the name to "Groove IP"... so if it's an app that has been on the Market a while, it's probably something Google wants to change, or they stole some idea from another developer.

I do also like Boat, but it still doesn't do mobile pages as well as Xscope. I used Boat for almost a year before switching to Xscope. All browsers offer something a little different.

Everyone has their preferences. That's why I like how we have so many options to choose from. :)
