how about an app that would turn the screen into a mirror for those of us that are vain and need to check our lipstick, hair, etc., once in a while? If you can turn the set into a flashlight, why not a mirror?

Probably because it's impossible. The only way to make a 'mirror' out of a phone screen is to have a front-facing camera

Or just turn if off and stare at your reflection in a dark screen.

A flashlight turn the brightness all the way up.
Making the pixels reflective doesn't make any sense...
