Hello and welcome to the forums - thanks for joining!
I think you mean the following:
from the homescreen, hit "menu" and then "settings". Next you need to choose "wireless and networks" and "mobile networks"... in there, you should be able to choose "mobile data" - this would then allow your phone to connect to your 3G network.
