My message app is missing. Samsung Galaxy 3

I don't know how it could disappear. Pre-installed apps need root in order to remove them. I assume you've checked that it's not in the app drawer either?
If not, check that you've not "disabled" it accidentally, which would make it disappear from screens or the app drawer. Settings > Apps > All, see whether you can see the app, if you can select it and enable if necessary.
Worst comes to the worst, there are many messaging apps in the Play Store, so you can just install another. But it's hard to see how it could really have gone, so try some of the things above first.
