Help Missing move to SD

Annestyw1

Lurker
I have a RCA voyage android 5.0 tablet and for a long time it had the option to move to SD card. One day I downloaded a app2sd app and now I no longer have the option to move apps at all. I can't move apps to my SD card at all now. I have tried system restore to factory and tried many different app2sd apps but nothing works. Can you help?

Most app2sd apps (Android version 5.1 and earlier) require a rooted Android device. Otherwise the native option can only move apps that the Developer permits. Most SD cards are considerably slower than the internal flash memory. Even if the native function allows it to be moved, only a small portion of it is actually relocated. This is for performance.
Rooted devices with a separate partition formatted ext3 or ext4 on the sdcard can somewhat overcome this issue.

Edit: Android version 6.0 has an option to format the entire card as internal, and 7.0 and up has a setting in Developers options as well.

You didn't answer my question, I had the option to move apps before without a app to move apps but no longer do. Now I can't move apps to SD card at all. The option isn't in any of the apps and every app2sd app fails to work also. I had a lot of my games on the SD card to start with but after factory restore I can't move them now.

I assume you are rooted. Did you use this new app2sd app or just install it? Assuming you used it, what did you tell it to do? And which one was it (if it's modified the phone in some way it will help immensely if we know what it actually is)? The more information you can give about exactly what you did the easier it will be work out a solution.

What happens if you remove the sd card and reboot the phone? Are any apps missing?

One suspicion is that it may have modified the /system, which would not be affected by a factory reset. If we can't work out what has changed you may need to reflash the system completely, but let's see whether we can work it out first.

I'm not sure if this tablet was ever rooted to start with and I just downloaded the app and tried to open it and it said I needed to root for it to work so I looked into rooting it but every where I looked it would tell me there's no root for this tablet. After my restore I never could find the app again and it's not showing up in my Google play store under all apps.

But without root it cannot alter the system software, and a factory reset would remove all traces of it.

So what do you see in the app management screen now? The "move to sd" button greyed-out for all apps (including fresh installs of apps you used to be able to move)?

The move to SD is gone it's not even there any more. After I downloaded that app2sd app my option button disappeared completely.

And that makes no sense unless the device is rooted: an app with only ordinary user privileges cannot alter the system software. Have you tried downloading a root checker app from the Play Store and testing for root? Otherwise nothing other than a system update should be able to remove the option.
