Help Missing Picture Icon from Contacts

rikkidegraz

Lurker
I just got this phone so I feel like I have sooooooo much to learn. So, I entered my husband's contact information and want to add a photo. Well, I've read so many how-to's but none answered my problem. It says after entering all the information I'm to click on the picture icon to add a photo to the contact.
For the life of me, I can't find it. I've clicked on the pen icon and the three dots but to no avail.
Help me! I've just started to enter information and am already in trouble.

Select his contact, click the pencil to edit. Look in the lower right hand corner where the 'blank' picture is...do you see a little camera icon? If so, click on that and you should be able to add a picture. Of course, the picture has to be on your phone.

If that doesn't work please advise what phone you have and what you are seeing when you click edit.

Welcome to the forums :)

Thank you for responding but when I click the contact and then pencil, there is only name, phone, email. No little blank picture nor camera icon.
I have galaxy s5. It's save to SIM card. Does that matter?

Not sure about the saving to the SIM thing, all mine are Google contacts and I'm using pretty vanilla Android so you may also be running into Samsung's stuff.

Try this though, go into your photo gallery and choose the pic you want. Tap the 3 dot menu, you should see something like 'set picture as', and you should be able to then select 'contacts', choose his.

I do suspect someone who is familiar with the Samsung UI is going to have to chime in though.

No, that gave me nothing either. Am I missing something. Maybe I should move that picture to Google but I had it on my computer and then downloaded it to the phone.

Hi, something else to try while you're waiting, go into your gallery, longpress the pic you want and see if it brings up a menu similar to the one on my HTC.

Pressing 'Set as' offers me the option of 'contact icon' and takes me to my contact list.

Yes, as I don't think you can save anything other than name/number to the SIM due to memory limitations.

A simple solution is to import the contacts from SIM to Phone, then configure the Contacts app to display Phone contacts only. You should be able to now set individual images for each contact entry.

p.s. make regular backups of your contacts as a VCF file (Contacts/Menu/Import/export/Export to .vcf file) whenever you change them so that you can recover all the info should you need to.
