MLB AT BAT Android on sale in March

look here MLB.com Mobile | MLB.com: Mobile, not specific about anything.. grrrrr

Believe me, I've been checking religiously. I've been waiting for this app ever since they released the Beta during the WS last year (actually, I"ve been waiting for it ever since I saw the iPhone with it), so if it only releases for 1.6+, I'm going to be beyond disappointed.

I'm extremely concerned, because I believe that the Sprint Hero and Droid Eris are the only remaining Android phones still running 1.5 (I could be mistaken though). The only saving grace is that the Hero is one of the bigger Android handsets (sales-wise), however, with the 2.1 update on tap (within the next few months) I am doubtful that they (MLB) would waste their time developing an app for an OS that is soon to be extinct.

I don't know much about how much effort goes into distinguishing an app between the OSes, but if it takes any significant level of effort to do so, my guess is that 1.5 is gonna get screwed.

I hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps mlb.com could explain to me how I'm watching my TV on my Moto Droid or the NBA was able to release an app or how DirecTV was able to release a superfan app if Android doesn't support streaming video. What a crock of shit.

1st off , welcome to the site. 2nd, you are absolutely right!

Thanks, been lurking a while. That absurd comment gave me motivation to sign up haha.

boy i tell yaa i hope its false in every way. i really think i may buy it if a slinbox app is not made or supported and if they make it so that it streams games. if its just audio then i will go wit the xm and the mlb package it gives you

I'm using a Hava placeshifting device, which is similar to Slingbox.

The company is also dragging its heels in creating an Android App but a user created a homebrew app called Test Tube, that's how I'm watching TV on my phone.

It works, but can be a little finnicky, and quality on 3G isn't anything to write home about, especially if signal isn't good.

What about SilverLight? Since MLB.tv runs on Flash/SilverLight, maybe At-Bat won't have a need for video??? One can always hope. :)

It's available on the iTunes site. $14.99 instead of $9.99. I'm wondering if it will be released for Android soon and I wonder if we'll have to pay the extra $5 considering there won't be video available.

It's supposedly supposed to drop for all platforms today (which I figured, since ST Games begin today), however, I still can't find anything confirming or denying if it will be available for 1.5+ or 1.6+ OS.

I'm hoping at some point this afternoon it magically pops into my Market.

Has anyone been able to find this app today?

I've been checking off and on all day and not seen it. I've seen it on some friends' iPods and iPhones, so it's definitely in the Apple Store. I don't know what the hold up is for the Android Market.

My nexus needs baseball!

MLB.com and MLB.tv are exclusively Flash as of the 2009 season. MLB Advanced Media had a falling out with Microsoft over Silverlight in the 2008-2009 off-season and it's been Flash all the way since then.

I have a the yearly subscription for mlb.vt, can i get the app for free?

Baby steps....I think the first thing we need is some info on when the heck it's going to launch for Android.

I find it pretty odd that after searching high and low all day yesterday and this morning, I cannot find one tiny bit of info, be it on a blog, a forum, the MLB site, etc. that lists ANYTHING about a relase for Android. I'm still worried that it's not even going to be available for 1.5 (Sprint Hero). If after all this, it's not available for 1.5, I'm going to be a little peaved, to say the least.

I think that it may be available for 1.x devices, but probably won't do streaming audio or video. I was reading a tech blog about two months ago where an MLB developer was talking about how the 2.x Androids implemented features that facilitate streaming audio and video better than what was in 1.x.

it doesn't and does surprise me.

I had the Beta version during the WS last year and it worked beautifully. Not too sure what has/hasn't changed since then that they would have a hard time implementing stuff into it.

Oh well....I just want me some baseball!!

Are you guys just checking the market from your phone? I did a search for "mlb at bat" yesterday and the only thing that popped up was Derek Jeter Baseball 2009. Would be sweet if that was a service where Derek Jeter called to update you on scores.

Yeah, I don't know of any other way to check either. I've noticed it's available on both the iTunes and BlackBerry World App sites. iTunes first and then BlackBerry later yesterday afternoon. It's still not updated for any platform on the MLB site, but I'm guessing they're waiting for it be available on all platforms, before they announce it on their site. So, with two out of the gate, I guess we're all waiting on Android now.
