MMS Mesages not always downloading

Maxx - ICS - factory reset - rooted - verizon system

4g signal is good where I am but there are a couple of my contacts that MMS messages from them do not automatically download. I have to choose to download from within the message. The message will say downloading but it may not actually get to my phone from 1 minute to 20 minutes, it varies. Autoretrieve MMS is checked in the text settings. Doesn't matter if network is set to Global or LTE/CDMA, it still happens.
Don't think it is because I leave background data off because most still come thorough.
It does not happen to all MMS, only a couple senders,,,, weird.

Any others with this or suggestions?

That is odd. Stock messaging or using an app? Does it seem to only happen with one or two particular senders or just anyone? Possible issue between different carriers. I don't believe the background data effects texts as it does like email and other programs, but I could be mistaken.
