MMS photos displaying in black and white

When using the Messaging texting app sometimes I receive photos in black and white rather than color. In a recent text I got 2 color photos and one black and white. Any ideas why this is happening or how to correct it? Thanks.

the pictures were sent to several different phones at the same time. On my phone some of the pictures were black and white. On the other phone they were sent to I saw that they were all received in color.

Just a guess but after googling the issue the other cases reported all seem to be on Verizon using the Handcent app, any chance you're using either?

I am on the Verizon network but I'm using the (stock?) Messaging app v. 1.22 on my Moto G.

Stolen from google forums, if this works the problem is the image file type is being saved wrongly or is an unsupported format most likely.

Click on the "black image" in your SMS messenger
When it opens up. Click it again and select the three boxes at the top right corner
Select Save
Go to your gallery
In Downloaded folder click the black image
Click the black image again to bring up Menu options
Go select the one that allows you to email.
It should automatically be attached when the email opens. Just put your email in and hit send.
