MMS/SMS without carrier's number.

Hey there.

I'm looking for an SMS/MMS app that lets me send/receive messages to a phone number that the services provides. Sort of like Google Voice but with mms capability. I know there are plenty of wifi based SMS apps but when it comes to having a personalized number that is not your cell phone number, and sending/recieving MMS, no luck so far.

Is there such a thing? I want it to not use my phone services as a proxy, but instead to send via my wireless or wifi.

Not sure if this question is clear or not, but thank you!

I don't totally understand, however I often use Kik Messenger. It works across Android / iPhone flatforms, and does NOT need to use the phone number.

The main drawback, anyone that you want to communicate with, will need to install the app on their phone, and they pick a userID to use instead of a phone number.

AS for functionally, it looks and behaves exactly like SMS, with notifications and everything, but addresses a lot like email, not phone numbers. Technically it is not SMS becasue it used your data plan, not the text messenges. So you do not even have to have texing on your phone.

Not sure if that helps.

Thanks ClubSteelers! That's not quite it...I'm looking for someone to be able to send me a MMS from their phone to my SMS/MMS client, without it routing through my carrier's plan.

I had Kik on my tablet and liked it but the big limitiation there is that not everyone has it.

Thanks!!!!
