Help MMS

My wife and I both got new Note 4's this week. We both use Google Messages for our text app. When we recurve a MMS it says "downloading" but never downloads. Coming from the Droid Maxx that never happened. She's coming from an iPhone 5S and it never happened.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Does it come in on the stock messaging app? I use Handcent on a DNA and have the same issue. It will never download the pic. I have to go to the factory provided messaging app and download it there. Then after its complete it shows up in both spots.

I haven't experienced that, but I have had some problems with MMS. I'd send an MMS message, and like 7 minutes later, I'd get a failure message.

Does MMS use data? What about regular text messages...do they use data?

I had used Google Messenger for a couple of weeks after it came out, andit was working great.

About 2 weeks ago, this issue started happening. MMS messages no longer auto downloaded, and after initiating a download it took 3-5 minutes per message to receive.

I uninstalled GM, used the stock app, Textra, and Chomp, all with auto download provisioned--no issues whatsoever with MMS.

The issue is with Google Messenger, not the Note 4 or your carrier network.

FWIW, I am now using Textra full time and love it. It's like GM, with more customization.

GOOGLE MESSENGER just got an update yesterday.

While it states mostly cosmetic changes, there may be some unmentioned under-the-hood fixes.

SMS is done over your cellular connection. MMS uses data.

I did two things to fix the messenger issue:
1. As suggested above, I used a different app, QKSMS.
2. I manually put the APN info in the app (the app actually detected all of the settings. I selected it.

This fixed issues I was having using Google's Messenger app. I am using a Nexus 5.
