mobile broadband

Hey guys . Didnt know who to turn to on this or where to post in the forums but im in a unique situation.

At home I do have internet.. however.im gone on the weekends and without any internet minus my metro phone (1gb a month. Not unlimited since you cant tether the way you should be able to)

Im in the market for mobile broadband and sadly I cant find a service thats workable for me

Im basically needing the broadband to stream tv. Which is bad since theres no unlimited plans which is shocking.

My home internet isn't unlimited (but for my uses it virtually is...its 250gb and I never came close even streaming tv all the time)

Point is anything I find with a high limit (think sprint who i believe has 100gb but) the price is insane

I noticed chit chat mobile has 40gb for 80. While thats not exactly cheap (my home internet is 45 A month for those 250gb)

But id consider it except when u try to sign up for the plan eventually it asks for an esn. Im confused about that. It sounds like they want a phone's serial number which makes no sense since its mobile broadband. If I have to have those 40gb straight through a phone then its not worth it

I was under the impression id be able to use a hotspot so I can use the data on any device I wish (phone or laptops...desktop etc)

So if anyone has a suggestion for service or an explanation for chit chat mobile esn needed for mobile broadband thing (tried contacting..didnt get an answer) id appreciate it

Hello may I ask how much data are you looking for . cause sprint has a new plan where you bring your mobile bill and they will match and slash. Now if you say you pay 40.00 dollars for 80gb hey you will pull out with that or less try it I Dont like sprint but hey it had cleared my vision and I can see clear now with a problem free carrier :p:rolleyes: yes very clear . SPRINT check it out ..

Well right now im on metro.pcs 40dollar for 1gb plan (but all they do is throttle after the limit. No extra charges)

But I had an idea yesterday. If I can bypass the carrier block I could activate an old lg motion (I have 4 of them....2 running stock and 2 on cm11)

I was playing with them yesterday and noticed the stock lg motion still promts to sign up for hotspot with metro but the one running cm11 didn't.

I wonder if I activate the one running cm11if I'll be able to bypass the tethering block. If so then I have a solution to get unlimited 4g lte for only 60 making those ridiculous data plans seem extra foolish

However I can't test it without activating it and no one has been able to tell me if it works or not

I hate to activate for a whole month only to find out metro blocks it once its activated.

Or alternatively if you have details as to how to bypass the tether block at a system level id be very interested.

I know its possible but the descriptions I've found on the internet are vague at best.

Something about decompiling and recompiling the system framework res apk (the o.s.) to remove a string or two of code but that's all I know. I have no idea how its done specifically and I can't find any decent tutorials on it.

What you're seeing is how most of the carriers handle tethering. The include a bit of code that requires a confirmation of a tethering plan without which you get redirected to sign up for one. That little bit of code wouldn't be found in a CM rom, but they still would monitor your data and throttle you back after you hit the limit.

Trying to get a good deal is one thing. Trying to get something for nothing is quite another.

Something for nothing? How do you figure that?
Im talking about buying the unlimited plan (I've had it on other phones before). They don't throttle. Hotspot can be added for a measly 5 dollars a month..no problem considering that's 65 and on tmobile id get 11gb for 70 plus 5 a month to pay for the physical hotspot device

The problem is metro doesnt allow you get tethering if you're on the unlimited plan. Period.

Which isnt all that fair considering the fcc ruling recently.

If I don't tether metro or whoever's unlimited plan then id probably have to pay $130 a month for Sprint and their 30gb a month plan and I think that's just insane

Besides I dont intend on abusing the unlimited data by torrenting etc I just don't have internet for 3 days a week besides my phone. Its hard writing college papers on my phone but for my last three papers ive done just that.

Fcc's stance was the customers can.use.the data they pay for any way they wish to use it and it shouldnt be restricted.

Thats how I feel as well.

So I just want access to something that I should have access to

And im not sure ive ever been throttled by metro while on the unlimited plan previously and I use to watch a lot.of xbmc when I was last on unlimited from metro. I used up to 20gb all at good speeds

Agree or disagree with the carriers' restrictions but we all signed the agreement and trying to circumvent those restrictions is trying to get something you are not entitled to. Look, I agree that carriers make boatloads of money with these data plans and may not be entirely fair to the consumer, but we're not here to sponsor a generation of Robin Hoods.

If you want to try and modify your phone to circumvent your carrier's restrictions, that's between you, your karma and your conscience.

Boatloads is an understatement.

My home internet through att is 18gb down for 45 a month with a 250gb limit.

The best deal on 10gb I.seen was 50.

Definitely absurd to do it by. The book.

At least for me. I'm not rich. Im paying my way through college. I shouldn't have to take it dry because of a carriers terms that technically shouldn't be apart of the agreement as of now since the fcc set a precedence on this type of situation with another carrier.

But it looks like I wont get much help online which is a shame since I have no experience with decompiling and recompiling an operating system . I know basically where to look in the system folders but not sure on what to change exactly

Depending on what phone you've got, maybe able to install a custom ROM, like CyanogenMod, that hasn't been restricted/nobbled by your carrier, and boom!....there is tethering.

I have "cm11" for the lg motion I put the "" because one I believe there's no official cm for lg motion and I think the cm port was for cm9 or 10. My version comes from a guy on this forum named cyberdev.

I did msg him about this and I believe he said if I use the native tethering app in cm 11 for the lg motion that I will get prompted by my carrier but Idk.

I have more than one lg motion. One has cm11 and I also have a motion with stock 4.0.4 ics. Neither is active on a network. However cm11 lg motion let me tether (it connected but since its not active on metro pcs network Idk if it really really works or not)

The ics stock lg motion wouldn't let me turn on the hotspot. it immediate prompted me to sign up for tethering with metro even though it's also not active.

Right before I went to bed last night I figured out how to setup the stock ics from at least prompting me to sign up with metro for hotspot use. I entered the hidden menu scrolled all the down and I think I clocked the last option and unchecked "network lock mode"the phone rebooted itself instantly then I noticed I wasn't prompted anymore. And the ics stock lg motion also connected to other devices for tether

none are active on a network and I have a. Sgh-t399n (samsung galaxy light) activated currently and its much harder to crack.

So Idk if I really have my solution or not. Is it worth activating a motion to see?

Also. Other than a user agent switcher how could I prevent metro from spying me to see if im tethering? Semi worried they'd blacklist my imei/block my tethering/cancel my account or something. I've heard some warn of it and others say they've been doing it for a long long time without any attempt to hide their tethering use and never had a problem

You can use a VPN or TOR, that will certainly encrypt everything you're doing and prevent the carrier doing deep packet inspections. The browser user agent is usually a giveaway of what you're actually using, e.g. Windows on a PC.
