Mobile Data headache

Hi Guys,

I've moved over from an Iphone 6 to the Samsung s7 Edge.

I live in Switzerland and have a Swiss simcard which I use when I'm roaming. I travel a lot. In Switzerland I have unlimited data but when I travel I only have 1GB.

On my iphone I was able to disable apps from using mobile data - this was a bit annoying as it prevented them working when I was in Switzerland as well but I was able to work with it.

I've been through all the setting on the Samsung and cannot find a way to disable certain apps (like facebook for example) from using mobile data.

Ideally what I would like is to be able to enable all apps when I'm not roaming but then as soon as I start roaming for certain apps to no longer be able to use mobile data.

Any suggestions for this?

That's what the background data settings is for. It disabled data for selected apps when they're not on the foreground (active usage).

So if the app is open but not at the foreground, will it still download data? I.E If the app is open but not on the screen you're looking at, does it still use mobile data?

No it shouldn't. That would be considered background data. An example would be Messenger by Facebook. It's supposed to be open, but it won't receive messages if background data is restricted.
