Help Mobile Data Issue

LtDan

Lurker
I am having an issue with the DATA connection only on my Samsung Ace 2.

I can use all of my apps when connected to wi-fi, however once I am running on mobile data only, I am very limited to what I can use.

The phone has a network connection both in and out, as I can see the connection on the phone as well as access the internet on apps such as Chrome or Internet. I can not however connect with most other apps, such as: Simpsons tapped out, telegram, facebook, reddit, youtube, snapchat, etc.

My provider is "Petro Canada Mobility" which I believe is under Telus.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

I too have Galaxy Ace 2. I had that problem too.
If you go to Settings->Data Usage you can see list of apps that are allowed to use the mobile data. Make sure these are not set to "restrict background data" (Also make sure that the system app known as "Media" is NOT restricted data otherwise you will not be able to download/update apps over mobile data and you will probably cry like I did. I was inconsolable for days about it)
Also, while on the Data Usage screen, press the bottom left "menu" button on the phone and check that the "restrict background data" isn't checked there. This is the global setting for the apps. If this is set, then trying to access mobile data would be like trying to play marbles on a gravel floor!
Hope this helps.

I had checked the restricted background data first actually. And no, none of my applications have this checked. I don't seem to see this "Media" system app in the Mobile Data section under settings. I also was unable to locate the folder under all my files.

Do you have any other suggestions? Like I said, Internet works, and occasionally GO Mobile but thats it. No other internet-reliant applications.

When you say the "mobile data" section do you mean "Data usage" section?
I thought there should be one there, the android logo with the word "Media" as if it was another app.
Also, is "Mobile data" enabled on the "pull down" menu? This may be deselected.
Have you tried speaking to your mobile provider? There is a chance the APN data has been corrupt.
Look at Settings->Mobile networks-> (check mobile data here too)->Access Point Names and check that this looks correct. If you ring to your network provider they will put you in a queue so you can listen to flute music for 37 minutes. Once through, they should be able to sort the APNs for you and try to sell you another talk plan or something before ending the call.
Hope any of this helps you.

Ok well I had checked the Access Point Names, and my provider is in fact selected. If there was an issue with this connection or corrupt APN, would it not disable ALL network dependant apps?

It just seems odd that I can access the internet on a browser on a good day, but not able to use internet related apps like youtube.

Is it possible my provider just sucks and can not support large and constant bandwidth movement?

Hmm I may have to contact them as my last resort

p.s. still not finding this "Media" app
