Mobile Database App??

Has anybody used MobiForms to create a database app for Android?
MobiForms Mobile Application Development Tools, Mobile Forms, Database Synchronisation, Mobile Replication

I want to create a data collection app that lets me download the collected data to a PC or server based database for comparison and analysis. Real time posts back to the main database would be nice, not not required. I have not yet purchased a phone so open to any good solution.

Filemaker http://www.filemaker.com/products/iphone/ and HanDBase DDH Software - HanDBase Sync Exchange for MS Access seem like possible options.

I watched some of the videos on Android app developement and do not want to learn Java to create a database....would like to know java, but to not want to spend the time to learn it.

I know SQL, so using SQLite is not a problem if I can find a good tool for creating the data collection forms.

YES I have MOBIFORMS.... a couple of things... the software does have a few bugs nothing bad...

It does NOT have a compiler which means you have to local install, and the icon will show MOBI whatever....

It is easy to use if you have used any type of database using forms or form to input or view data.

The software manual is ok to get started, showing how to's including barcode printing, CVS file, text lists, and even external DB's

I wish they would add additional functionality to the buttons, but I am still new to it and some of what I am looking for may be there, just haven't found it yet.

OVERALL... at the price knowing what I know now.. specifically the Compiler... I would not purchase, which may only deter me, and if you only want it for personal use it may be a good idea, but I have opted to grab Eclipse, and go that route for now.

I also just got invited to Beta the APP INVENTOR, took a quick look but need more time to view before judgement.

HOPE this helps at least a little.

I've just added another alternative that might suit for some of you (and probably not for others). "Data Bee" keeps your data as a very simple flat file -- a CSV text file. The advantage to this is that you can exchange it with Excel, MySql, or any other program you like and, via dropbox, even keep it consistently synchronized across platforms.

It also runs *very* fast on even large files. None of the other programs mentioned seem to do very well when given 5,000-50,000 line data files. Data Bee thrives on 'em. You need the $4.99 pro version to be able to edit the files, but you can test out viewing and verify the speed with Data Bee Lite.

I should note that, given the simple CSV format, it does not *yet* support field typing. However, the Pro version remembers meta info about the file, and can eventually be extended to be able to handle at least simple type info. (Numbers and dates certainly. More detailed types, maybe. User response will determine how much development effort goes into extending it.)

There is a relational database that is easy to use called HanDBase. The company is DDHsoftware.

You can find it by searching HanDBase in the Android Marketplace.

they also have a desktop program that works on Windows and Mac. This program also sync's with the Android program, backs up your databases and you can also create databases to use on the Android.

The desktop program has a 30 day trial and can be found at http://ddhsoftware.com

They also have a user forum located at http://ddhsoftware.com/forum

The Android program is $9.99.

This database is powerful as a relational database, but you do not need a database degree to make your own databases.

I am not affiliated with DDHSoftware in any way, but I am a long time customer that has used HanDBase on my Palm, Windows Mobile, and now my Droid X.

Check the new app named "My Data" by PortoFarina.

This is a very simple database application. It lets you create databases on your SD Card in a folder named My Data. Shortcuts to particular tables in the database can be created in the Android launcher. The application lets you do the following:
- Create/Delete/Rename/Backup databases.
- Create/Delete/Rename tables.
- Create/Delete/Rename columns.
- Create/Delete/Edit rows.
- Create relationships between tables.
- The following types are supported: Text, Integer, Real, Check Box, Date, Time and Phone numbers.
- The application is also localized in French.
- When databases, tables or columns are deleted, a backup of the database is performed automatically. Use any file browser to find the databases and their backups under /mnt/sdcard/My Data.
- The application stores the database using the SQLite file format.
- The application relies heavily on long press gestures to bring up context menus that will let you do some of the above.
- The application manages automatically the primary and foreign keys. So when you are creating your tables, avoid creating primary keys and creating relationships that use them. Use the regular columns for defining relationships. The application even takes care of situations where the linked to values change.
- Referential integrity is implemented by nullyfing the referencers when the referenced rows are deleted.

Hello All,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum (i'm sure the thread will be moved if it is!)

I am seriously considering getting the htc hero (g2 touch), but everything hinges on the availability of a mobile database app, such as Visual CE (which I currently use on my WM phone) or Handbase. Basically a customisable form-based data collection app which can be sync'ed with a desktop database.

Does anyone know of such an app?

Many thanks!

PS one of the shortfalls of Android from a marketing perspective is that there is no definitive way to view all available applications - Android Market is limited when accessed via the web.

I ended up here because I am searching for a database that is base on relationships such as ACT! and MS Access. I preferr ACT! because it works well with MS Outlook. Palm had great software that sync'nd well with ACT but I love my EVO and really need it to work with what I am use to. I am currently looking into buying ACT! 2012...Your input on what you think would be appreciated.

Hey all;

Sorry for taking a step back, but I'm not proficient in programming, & I don't pretend to bee a programmer! :)

That said, I was curious if anyone knew of any e-contractor or moonlighter websites where I can contract someone to build me a database I can input data from my Android tablet & phones, & print from a PC? Basically I am a taxi driver, & I would like to enter my "run" information electronically from the get go via my tablet or phone (instead of writing it out & entering it manually into Access or Excel when I get home), then just print out a copy of a predefined form (as an example, google 'taxi manifest') when I get to the office. The # of fields or questions the tablet or phone app would ask me wouldn't be many (pick up time, odometer @ p/u, p/u location, drop time, odometer @ drop, drop location, # of passengers, & fare, etc), and could be entered quickly via the devices while on the job. My guess is it would be no harder then hiring someone to build me a front & back end Microsoft access database, only via an Android OS app. The info could even reside locally on the devices or on some server space I rent.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave
(I apologize if my question is not germain to this thread)

One of my most important apps...

I've been wanting a good database app, but haven't really been looking until I saw this thread. I used to program business DBs years ago...VB6, Access, SQL, Excel, and all that stuff.

I just picked up Memento to try it out. If that doesn't cut it, I'll spring for HanDBase (sounds cool). Doesn't seem to be anything else out there...except single purpose apps. I need lots of versatility.

to be continued....

Let us know...

I'm using MySQL on the PC. I just wanted to run a MySQL client on my Android device and connect to my server on my LAN.
