Mobile Odin sections

Although I've had this installed for many months, I've never actually used it to flash anything.

I was just wondering what the various sections are intended to flash?
Kernel and Modem are self explanatory
What are each of the following sections intended for exactly?

System
Data
Cache
Param
Hidden
Open File

I'm assuming it just assigns the file partition to which the tar is getting extracted to, but is there more to it than this?

I can answer Open File immediately since it's the easiest. Basically it's the equivalent of adding PDA, PHONE and CSC files to flash firmware. You select a tar file and it automatically allocates the partitions contained in the tar to the correct slots for flashing.

The others are all for flashing a firmware. If you open a firmware using Open File... it will add all the relevant partitions it could find. Here's an example of me loading Lite'ning rom:

You can see that it added kernel, modem and system. I imagine other roms/firmware may have the ability to fill up the other fields, but other than that, I have no idea why you would use them, especially individually! Except for of course Kernel, which I use all the time for Siyah updates :D

In addition, there seems to be the ability to perform a root whilst flashing official firmware rather than be unrooted for 5mins or so (hence the term EverRoot :D), but I haven't looked into that. It's greyed out until you add a firmware. Personally, I'm a bit wary about flashing firmware on-the-fly. Kernels I don't mind and even modems, but firmware is likely to have issues in my eyes :P

Cheers butty. Very helpful.
So basically, you only ever use the "open file" option, select the .tar, then all the various sections gets filled automatically? Is this right? What a clever bit of software!

I was contemplating giving Lite'ning a go the other day, and I've always been put off by it as its a .tar/Odin job. Never thought about Mobile Odin! Doh! :)

I think the rooting option is only in the paid version by the way butty

Cheers mate

Yep that's right my good mate! Although I don't bother using Open File for kernel flashing since kernel is closer to the top ;)

Yeah actually trying Lite'ning on mobile odin has spurred me on to try a new rom and try flashing on Mobile Odin! I'll report back when I get to it.

I think it is actually! I do indeed have the paid version since it's an awesome program. It's still greyed out until you actually add the firmware/rom, just like the flash option! I can't remember what the lite version is missing since I've had the pro for a couple of months.
