Mobile verses full Internet

wavmaker

Lurker
I tried to load an App called Akinator. it installs successfully but will not work. "force close"
I tried the program online from my laptop and like it so I figured i will just run it from my HTC EVO straight from the internet site but when it recognizes that I am using a phone it automatically takes me to the Mobile site where it directs me back to the market place to download the App again.
So is there a way to make a site that recognizes I am on a mobile and make it give me the regular Internet site?

Yep, two things.

First, uncheck mobile in your browser prefs.

Second, enter this in your browser address widget:

about:debug

No http, nothing extra, and hit enter. Nothing will appear to change.

Now go into your browser settings again, and you'll have new options.

Turn off Java console warnings.

Go to the UA string/id and check Desktop instead of Android.

Now the site will think you're a desktop. If it doesn't, in this order, try clearing cache, if that doesn't work, clear cookies (painful as that may be).

Bookmark these instructions - so you can know how to set it back when you DO need to run as a normal Android browser.

It worked, THANKS
P.S. I tried to do a search for the answer before the post but just couldn't figure out the right words. as soon as you type such a common word like "internet" there are too many returns to go through.
Thanks

google= androidforums run android browser like desktop

;)

But seriously - I found out same as you. I couldn't find it in a search, so I asked and another guy answered who couldn't find it in a search but did get answer when he asked...

If you're familiar with the phrase - it's turtles all the way down! So, it's all good.

And - search is just way easy, isn't it? Especially if you know the answer - otherwise... (But srsly, always put androidforums at the front of your google search, it'll cut down on the comedy. We're the biggest and the best, if the answer's out there, it's in here.)

Glad it worked out for you!

And - welcome to the forums!

True. You do need some idea of they keyword(s) to use. "User agent" would have pulled what you're looking for.

If you don't want to hassle with about:debug in the stock browser, the 3rd party browsers tend to have a user agent setting that will stick from session to session.

For some sites you can also bookmark the full version of the site.
