Help Mobile WiFi Hotspot Question

Hello, I will be purchasing a Galaxy S3 this weekend and would like to know if this is possible with the Mobile WiFi Hotspot.

I will be travelling to the Carribean shortly, and the hotel I am staying at charged for WiFi PER DEVICE. I will also be bringing my laptop with me, and I had in mind to do the following.

Pay for the WiFi and setup the SG3 on it.
Use the Mobile Hotspot on the SG3 to allow the laptop to piggyback on it.
This would remove the need to pay for WiFi on the laptop.

On the SG3, however, I will have the carrier data connection turned off to prevent roaming charges.

Can the SG3 do what I am planning? Failing that, is there a 3rd party device on Google Play that can do what I'm thinking?

Thank You!

the mobile hot spot feature you are trying to use is not set up to do what you are asking. typically you can turn you phone into a mobile hotspot and share your cell phones data plan with other devices. as you are trying to not use your carriers data plan that is not the option you want to use. before you leave you may try turning off the the data connection to the carrier and connecting to your home wireless network then plug in the phone via usb to your laptop. again this is not a standard use, tethering is typically the used the same way as the hotspot but if your phone is connected to wifi there is nothing stopping it from being a modem for your pc provided your pc recognizes it as a modem. i wouldnt steak my life on it working but it should. i promise the wirless hotspot wont do what you want but tethered as a modem might. try it at home to verify. you will want to turn off the wireless on you laptop obviously.
and you may need to download modem drivers.
