Would it be possible to remove the internal storage and replace with a similar higher capacity storage chip?

Look for the site infixit.com and lookup the teardown on any phone.

The short answer is no.

You're not going to remove densely padded surface mount devices without damaging the board and everything around the chip in question.

These aren't pc parts ok.
