Help modifying the sleep function..

ok so I am working on making an ice cream sandwich phone for dedicated car use. its running a gps app and a obd2 dashboard app. what I want it to do is stay awake as long as there is power to the usb port, and have it sleep say a few minutes after the car is shut off with no power to the usb port.. is this possible?

that sounds exactly like what im looking for.. now hopefully it will listen for engine noise on the charge wire, so It can constantly charge, but wake up once it sees an actual charging condition. and I have to root the phone, this should be fun

everything worked, I was hoping that it would be able to tell the difference between the engine running and not and continue to charge the phone with the engine off, but no, its not that smart.. guess ill have to run it on a switched charge wire.. ohwell....
