Moisture under screen

Lurker
I have an Samsung galaxy S3 that seems to have gotten moisture under the screen, and now the entire screen slowly but surely turned black. It does turn on and off, and the touchscreen seems to work, from the sounds and feel, but the screen is black. Can anyone tell me what I can do to repair myself? Is it the LCD or screen?

If it's turning black it's either the LCD (the display) or the LED (the light under the display). I wouldn't suggest trying to repair it yourself, though. We;'ve seen too many posts here of phones being damaged by people trying to replace their own screens (and I've repaired too many failed attempts at replacing screens) to recommend trying it to anyone who has to ask any question about it. (Techs who do it destroy a lot of unrepairable phones before they learn just the right technique to get the old screen off the phone without damaging the phone.)

I think it's probably the LCD, because I think the light under does work. I've been looking to buy another one, but I figured I could try myself, if it doesn't work it doesn't work, nothing I can do with it anyway. Any ideas on stores or websites to buy LCDs?

With a bit of research, with a replacement LCD and digitizer, I'm looking at probably more than I'd pay for a clean esn replacement s3 off eBay. Does that sound right?

The S3 Display is AMOLED not LCD. Just an FYI.

Correct. Which means there is no separate light behind the screen. The pixels themselves light up. Therefore the only thing bad would be the AMOLED screen itself.

You can watch some videos on YouTube about the replacement process. It doesn't look easy.
