Monthly data limit

Three days ago I got my moto ATRIX 4g. With the tethering plan. As of today I have used ..cell..8662kb and w-fi 2862kb. At this rate of usage for a full month, will I reach my limit.

Guess I did leave some info. out. I am with AT&T and have the DataPro 4GB per month limit w/ tethering.. I think I will be all right.

You also have WiFi, so stop worrying!

1gb / month is plenty for general browsing, some youtube, occasional downloads & the sync stuff on androids. It's when you want constant connection for like, streaming media & online gaming, that you'll need more.

Dunno what your provider is like, but tariffs in UK are "unlimited", meaning that we can't really go over our limit if you're 'playing by the rules' - ie: if we're casual users (see above) then 1gb is enough.... if we do the intensive stuff then we might need more, indeed, they might text us to say we're using too much data & might like to upgrade to a higher tariff. I think it's got more to do with how much bandwidth we use at any period.

Also, our monthly or longer tariffs generally have faster speeds than daily or weekly tariffs.

I also have a Huawei E585 MiFi for mobile broadband - 1gb / month is usually ok, unless I want to stream music (internet raio, etc...) then I need a 3gb / month. HTH

AT&T doesnt have an unlimited plan for new users. That is what they told me at the AT&T store.
ATT can kiss my ass.

Seriously? Huh. Guess money doesn't talk with them. Still, risky, if you really use your data, which is hard to tell. I hear they have a calculator for this?

My Data Manager Free does work with 4G. I have 4G wherever I go for some reason. Some parts of my house it downgrades to 3G, but that is what Wifi is for.

The first couple of days or first week you might have higher data usage caused by the intial setup. Syncing of emails, contacts and Over the air updates might be the cause of the spike in data usage for new phones. They should level off in a few days.

Few things to watch out for though 4 gb should be plenty for you to enjoy your phone....

1. Don't use email to send or receive pics or any media.
2. Streaming radio and or video is a data hog.
3. Tethering even though it's in your plan will get you since you more than likely tether so you can use your laptop. Laptops aren't designed to minimize data usage so using the internet on your laptop while tethering equals more data.
4. Doesn't ATT give you free hotspots to use? If they still do, don't take that added benefit for granted. Use them when they are available.
5. Have fun with your Atrix!

Aye, when I first got the Android I had neglected to opt for a data tariff, & over the space of one night I lost half of my top-up, I only made two calls!

Firstly I pulled off the facebook & other sync widgets I wasn't using. Secondly, changed a few things in settings > data manager. Thirdly, made a custom profile in battery manager that also decides when to turn off data (when it is in sleep mode, for example).

It sucks if networks aren't offering "unlimited" for devices that need it. Even here, the definition of "unlimited" has been variable, particularly when iPhone became second fiddle to Android & suddenly iPhone unlimited became 500mb, compared to the next big thing Android, on 1gb (on certain networks)!

Do networks in the US have this "fair usage policy" where they won't cut you off, as long as you're in the ball park?

Some that do have "unlimited" will slow down your connection speed if you are using too much of their data. T-Mobile does that. Sprint says they don't, not sure if it is true.

I think Verizon offers the best data and had unlimited but got rid of it.
