Monthly versus 30 days

rudyy

Newbie
So my ST service started on the 24th. I get an ST text saying next payment due date is the 24th.
The 2nd month I bought a refill card on the 24th and paid. I get an ST text saying next payment due date is the 23rd.
The next month ST texts me and says next month it's due on the 22nd.
So I contact ST support to ask why the due date isn't the same every month, and I'm told payment due date depends on the number of days in the month because it's not a monthly plan, it's a 30-day plan.
Two days ago I see a Walmart ad for ST on TBS saying ST is a monthly plan. So I contact ST support again, and mention the TV ad.
ST customer support replied:

"With regard to the inquiry you sent, the $45 per month is actually 30 days since the usual number of days in a month is 30."

My beef is, it is easier to remember one due date monthly.
I responded saying the CSR answer is baloney.

I agree that it is odd. But I'm guessing the back end of the system is TracFone which is a daily and/or per minute system at heart. So it was easier to map a 30-day card/payment system unto it than trying to adjust for varying month lengths.

As for calling it a "monthly" plan... well... that is just marketing and I'd venture a guess that even in a court case, a judge would say that a "month" is a reasonable description for "30 days"... provided that everything in the mice type and such is clear that it is 30 days. --- which is very obvious when you buy the recharge cards... they say in huge letters "30 day".

Well, my rent is due monthly, my credit card bill is due monthly, my phone bill (when under contract) was due monthly, and all of the bills were/are due on the same day of the month, every month.
Straight Talk is full of baloney.
I've said it before: avoid Straight Talk and TracFone phones.

Using the term "monthly" to refer to a 30 day period is not overly misleading (IMO), though it is technically incorrect. I would even argue that the usual number of days in a month is not 30. The average number of days in a month is 30.42 (during non-leap years), but the median days per month is 31.

Avoid them if you wish, but this seems like a ridiculous reason to do so.

This is just one of numerous reasons I've listed in this forum (for those who are still considering ST and TF) to avoid Straight Talk and TracFone phones.
YMMV.

I'm going to add that my February date was the 18th and my March due date is the 20th so it is 30 plan.

Avoid their phones, yes. Avoid the bring your own device? No.
