Most of my Amazon FAOTD can't run w/o data

Has anyone else found that their apps from the Amazon AppStore won't run without a data connection despite many of these apps being "free-standing"? One of my favorites, AnatomyEssentials3 will run fine behind a pop-up stating an internal error was happening due to a lack of a data connection. I contacted the maker and they were confounded by this restriction.

Is there any way to defeat this?

I have found that I need to open the apps at least once with a data connection to get past Amazon's DRM.

Once per hour/day/week/...? I've used these apps before with a connection without an issue.

Did you check for an update? I have found in the past when I have had authentication or DRM issues that the Amazon app had an update. I seem to remember one recently, but I'm fried this week so I could be off by a week or so.
