Help motions Tilt and Panning doesn't work

BicoOo

Lurker
i have samsung galaxy s2 the motion tilt and panning doesn't work in the device , the other sensors working good, i ask if any one can tell me how to troubleshoot such problem to know if its hardware or software , and which sensor that responsible for that tasks, many thanks

is it enabled? settings/motion and check Motion activation
although to be honest, these are really just gimmicks.. its much easier to pinch zoom than to tilt zoom. the panning thing could be a bit more useful than tilt, when u want to move an icon to a place many screens away. but seriously, just a gimmick :D

I found this word work only rarely (about 1 in 10)
however, since I upgraded the last firmware update that came through Kies (PDA:KG3/PHONE:KG2/CSC:KG3 (ORA) it seems to work all the time.

But, i'm on Orange, and if I'm on the Orange homescreen style (as opposed to samsung) then its still tempremental

many thanks for your support, iam sure that it is enabled in the device and today i made the last firmware update and still the same problem :( , iam afraid that the sensor that responsible for that function may be responsible for addtional functions so that i asked about the sensor name [i think that its gyro sensor] , i know that its gimmick as you mentioned before but i paid more that 700$ in that phone so any thing doesn't work make me so diappointed :o , many many many thanks.

yeah, absolutely.. if its enabled and not working, i'd be very annoyed too, after spending so much.. i believe there are two motion sensors, the gyro sensor and the accelerometer (im not sure about this, though) do features like auto rotate work? how about games, which use the accelerometer to work? i.e. racing games where u steer the car by tilting the screen?

Great idea i tested it in racing game and working fine and be noted that the other motions working fine like turnover and double tab do you think that may be soft ware problem . please advice if i can reload or upgrade it and how, the current android version is 2.3.3 is there is new version, thanks for your help

many thanks again for you concern,i made the upgrade throgh kies the firm ware now is jpkg5 and still the same problem . also i made download to some applications that test sensors in the device and they working fine with the other sensors only gyro sensor doesn,t take any response so ithink that it is hard ware problem so i will back it to the supplier and he will check this problem with manufacture and feed you back, many thanks for you support :o

You don't need to download an app to do the tests, there is a way of doing a self test with a code on the phone it lets you test anything on the handset pretty much.

thanks for your reply , iam already test it from the tutorial but it doesn't work , and i will check code , but i have aquestion , what suppose the gyro sensor calibration test that exist in the setting to do as the pointer didn't move whatever how much i move the phone???

yes i think its best if u get a new phone.. seems like ur sensor is out if it doesnt work for every app. or at least ask ur supplier to check it out for u

i made the code test , its realy amazing , in sensors secotor under gyroscope sensor when i press on gyro self test it loading for a second then write with red color FAIL , i think that means that the sensor doesn't work , please any one try this tell me if he made this test and tell me the result , many thanks

After "dialing" *#0*# and testing the sensors, all tilting functions returned to normal. Maybe it resets the sensors before the tests are conducted. Either way it worked for me!

guys recently i dropped my phone and my phone's TURN OVER sensor stopped working i was worried and i went in to settings - display-horizontal calibration and gyro sensor calibration and found that the ball was not in the centre then i ran the calibration tests and found sensor not moving then i tried the lcd test by typing *#0*# in the phone key pad then i ran the sensor test and i found every thing fine. then i made the phone to vibrate at its full frequency by placeing my finger on the proximity sensor for 20 sec and found that due to vibrations the sensors again started to work.
HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU FRIENDS

Hi. I have a problem with the motion sensor in my SII which became obvious during game play requiring tilt / gyro adjustment. The problem only happens however when the phone is in my leather case. As soon as I remove it all works perfectly. Before I invest in a new case does anyone else have this issue? Also those commenting on problems above, are you using the handset in a case and if so try it without.

since downgrade to Android 2.3.4 from 2.3.6
(did it for batter issues since supposedly 2.3.4 is best)

Auto rotation is of course on, I tried the *#0 thing, vibrate for 20 sec, etc
nothing is working

how can i know if the firmware i got is corrupted? (everything else is working fine)
I really don't feel like flashing again, it's a hassle to reorganize contacts and merge them etc.

plz help

I had the same problem. The rotation stopped working even though the motion feature was activiated.

Found the solution under settings: Settings, Display, Auto-rotate screen must be checked.
