Moto Droid, Big mistake?

Keep it on topic guys...

Hi, LOL, I sold my first Droid to XtremeAaron for his girlfriend and missed it the moment I go
t my new WM phone. I just bought another Droid and couldn't be happier. New apps everyday to try; some good, some not so good but you can try most for free. WM doesn't allow trying new apps very easily; have to go torrenting to find most of those.

Take a couple of weeks and ask questions here. I'm sure you will be happy in the long run with the "DROIDS".

Arizona Sunshine;)

Love my Droid, but my last phone was the pitiful ENV2, so my frame of reference is a bit skewed....the fact that it does even 10% of the things it's capable of blow me away compared to what the ENV2 could do, but from what I've heard from others, comparing the BB Storm to a Droid isn't really a fair fight, hope you enjoy it!

Thanks again to all of you for your responses.......whether it's a thumbs up or down.....it's all good. I am impatiently awaiting Fed-Ex as we speak. Will give it a go with the Droid. As was mentioned earlier, I've got 30 days to check it out. I feel that's a very fair amt. of time to make a decision. It seems most of you are very happy with your Moto Droid.

I don't think you will regret getting the Moto Droid. I'm not sure how much you got them for but I'm pretty sure it less than $199. each which makes it an even more awesome bargain. I think you can get Droid for less than $50.00 now.

Verizon was having a "special". I got both phones for $149.00......Total. I bought both phones, two docks, two cases, and two car chargers and it was like $330.00

Have had my droid for quite a while and I must say, it was a waste of time. I will sell it soon and not lose too much because of my renewal date and the 150.00 rebates. My main concern is the throttling of the bandwidth. Before the firmware upgrade I was experiencing d/l speeds of 11mb on my 20mb wifi, and after the upgrade I average no higher than 3.8mb down. I had a 3-way conversation with verizon and a motorola tech and all the motorola tech could say was he was sorry I was experiencing such slow d/l speeds and they might be looking into the issue. What a bunch of bs. I figure somewhere down the line verizon and motorola will get together and allow faster speeds, of course at a price. It's also a bit of a hassle answering a call. Have to turn the phone on, then unlock it, then press the phone icon. With my LG 8350 I just flip it open and start yakin. And they have ALL those gimmicks you can d/l that lure newbies in, but I must confess, the droid just ain't what it used to be. It's also a little strange seeing my google map location at my neighbors house. There's other little annoyances but I won't take up too much space. G/L & take care.

I don't know how you've set up your droid but I've never had to unlock my phone to answer it, a screen just comes up telling me who is calling and then I slide the "answer" button to the right.

If you're talking about making a call, then yes you have to unlock it and press a phone icon...tbh if you can't handle that you really might be better off going back to a flip-phone, enjoy not having tethering (at any speed) at all.

Oops, momentary lapse of reason. You are so absolutely right, to answer you just unlock the phone. Tethering is so so, especially at such slow speeds. All in all, it's more gimmicky than anything. I guess for the easily amused, all the apps & the slide keypad, camera and rear view mirror are cute. Take care.

I would just disregard this guys hate cjacobs. After seeing his username, he obviously joined up just to complain.

Also, UPS and FedEx are the slowest thing once your waiting for something.

You are exactly correct about the wait ExtremeAaron! I got the phones and these things are beyond awesome!!!! The call clarity is beyond any phone I've ever had....including my land line! This thing rocks! I am gonna start a new post cause I obviously have some questions. I hope the moderator will let me stay in this forum 'cause you all have been great. I hope you will follow my new post and help a newbie out.

Hate? Harsh words.. Just not totally flabbergasted is more like it. There are better phones out there, and there will continue to be advances in technology. If one can't see beyond the gimmicks being mass produced then one doesn't understand how big corporations operate. If your happy with whatever gadget you've purchased that's cool. I just mentioned a few issues with the droid. You'll get over it....trust me.

Try this exercise:

Vist any discussion forum site. Show me one that isn't chock full of people posting about problems that they're having with whatever the topic is. It's the very nature of these discussion forum sites.

Use your Droids. You should have a period of time to return them. Make your decision just before your time is up.

I've been very happy with my Droid. The only major complaint I have is that there are sometimes issues with GPS getting a proper fix that I never experienced with my Blackberry 8310. However, IIRC the BB 8310 always operated in standalone mode while the Droid is aGPS and that could possibly have something to do with it.

why not just get one moto-droid and htc incredible that way you have both to compare with and see what you like and don't like right then and there.
I didn't do this in my case because I know I'm responsible for supporting my better half's smartphone. It's easier to support her when I'm on identical hardware.

YMMV, of course.

To the compost pile with the BB's. I was on U-tube today and watched a side by side video comparison between the BB storm and the Moto Droid. I was blown away.....the Moto Droid kicked the BB's A$$ hands down. I think the BB was said to have a better E-mail function but that was about it.
Each device has its niche. In your case you need to find out what suits you.

Personally, I prefer Exchange and ActiveSync on the Droid to Exchange and BES on a Blackberry. IMO having true email syncing beats the push-and-reconcile approach used by the Blackberry.

I never understand why some individuals would comment on a product if you never operated one.
Some? Seems to be the majority in my experience... People everywhere judge things that they know nothing about all the time.

Better is always highly subjective. There's nothing to "get over" here. Don't assume that your experience speaks for everyone. Again, selecting a smartphone is a highly subjective process.

I came from the BlackBerry as well, the Motorola Droid was a big mistake. I love it when it works, but useless for email. In other words it's a great multimedia toy, not a reliable business man phone.

I somewhat disagree with this as I'm a moderately heavy mobile email user and I've been on the Droid since release and have few problems. The caveat I offer is that I did go with the Touchdown app which does cost extra but syncs perfectly with Exchange. I would agree that the Droid isn't quite at the enterprise level of BB but I have higher hopes/expectations for the Incredible.
