Moto E Telephone Black Screen Problem Remedy
The Problem :
Seems like Motorola did a very bad MARKETING decision to make the telephone software with a screen saver which is neither delay based nor customer input based and is NOT configurable. Motorola uses the movement sensor to switch the screen off or on. The movement sensor seems to be used in this way : when the telephone is horizontal or close to horizontal, the telephone screen ( with the dial icon ) is displayed. When the telephone is moved UP and vertical ( as in putting the phone next to the ear ), the screen is off. Then, when the phone is positioned again in horizontal position ( to, say, press the dial buttons for automated selection ) the screen comes on again.
This is a very bad decision because this does not seem to work as Motorola seem to have wanted to detect the movement of the hand and analyse what type of movement this is. The software does not work well and does not analyse the movement correctly but, even in case the software worked perfectly, the arrangement is not to work because people move their hands, heads and shoulders for many reasons and in many different ways. For example, some people tilt their heads when they talk, make gestures or put the telephone between their shoulder and ear as well as gesture with their hands when they talk.
Looks like, to make the case better or, in this case, worse, Motorola may have put a pressure sensor to the ear loudspeaker bar. This is also a bad marketing decision, because some people may not touch their ear with the telephone when they use the phone but, instead keep the phone close to their ear with volume up. One of the reason for this may be to get the ambient sound ( other people talking around or to them ) better.
Some Kind of a Remedy :
  1. Turn the keypad sound off from the settings. This may not be important.
  2. Turn the Wi Fi off. This may not be important.
  3. Close the browser. This may not be important.
  4. Use the telephone on speaker. This may or may not help. I have not tried this.
  5. Place the telephone horizontally. When you are to make a call DO NOT HIT NOR BANG the telephone number or the contact. Just slightly and very gently touch the contact or the phone or the phone icon. Stay this way for a while : the software reacts on RELEASE and not on press. After calmly staying with a finger on the relevant screen item, gently and quickly release. DO NOT MOVE THE PHONE AND DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE RELEASE.
  6. The telephone screen is supposed to appear. Once on, click the dial icon as quickly as you can but, again, VERY GENTLY.
  7. Wait for a while and do not touch. Then, put the telephone on or near your ear and listen or talk as normally. In case you need to use the dial buttons, take the telephone off your ear and position the telephone horizontally or close to the horizontal position. Move your hand gently. May God be with you!
  8. Once the conversation is over, try to hit the “ hang up “ icon before the call is off. This may not be important.
  9. In case of a problem, try to press volume up or down, power button and try to press or hit the loudspeaker bar ( the upper line on the telephone ).
The problem may or may not be dependent on the strength and clarity of the signal. To call the service provider and inform them of the problem may be a good idea.
Please, email Motorola and ask them to get rid of this garbage software and leave the TELEPHONE SCREEN ALWAYS ON.
In case they want to make themselves look smart, they can put settings options :
  1. Telephone screen always on.
  2. Custom icon to turn the screen on or off along with the power button ( which would be necessary to turn the screen on again and also can be used to turn the screen off along with the icon ).
  3. Timer driven screen off. The screen can be switched off after a few seconds inactivity and then can be switched on again with the power button.
  4. The speakers buttons can be used instead of or in conjunction with the power button for screen control.
  5. The screen can be turned on by pressing the screen anywhere during off screen.
  6. Any other combination or possibility, just not the movement sensor.
  7. In case Motorola insist on their movement software so much, they can leave this as an OPTION.
In case you have found any improvement to these procedures or found another way, please, inform by email to : Steven.Stanley.Bayes@gmail.com
