Moto G 2 2014 cracked screen question.

I have a Moto G 2014 purchased through Consumer Cellular. Today I noticed a small area of cracking in the lower right-hand of the screen. Cracked area covers the entire right-hand corner, including a crack into the speaker. Spider webby.

I would like to know if I could put a tempered glass screen protector over this. Would that likely keep the crack from spreading? Would it adequately protect the screen from further damage without damaging the phone?

I just got a quote of $100 to replace the screen, and that seemed very high. I paid only $149 for the phone.

Advice?

i'm not sure about this.. but it did prevent it from spreading based on my experience.. disclaimer: not 100% guaranteed to work

I cracked the screen in mine just after I got it. I bought a new front housing, (screen bezel, the lot) for £40 and replaced it myself in about 30-45 mins. It's only got 13 screws to undo, and there is a very simple guide to follow over on iFixit.
