For some reason some of my pictures in my camera roll has turned Grey... I tried deleting my cache by turning off my phone and booting in recovery mode n using a cache command... Still no luck.. I can transfer them to my laptop but still shows Grey on there.... Can anyone help.. Would appreciate it thanks

May want to check that system update, just upgraded mine to 4.4.3. ;)
Not that it will really help. I'll look around to see if I can find some support for you. :)

Did you successfully clearing the cache partition?

This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.

1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select

Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.

4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key

Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.

6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence

Not sure if u wanted the second pic but jus incase.. Moto Gs don't have a SD card slot

Sorry, the Moto G "LTE" does have one. didn't see you had the older Moto G.

THat is a sign of corruption, though. If you have any music on the device see if the track thumbnails (when you play music) have the same issue. If they do you might be forced to factory reset the device if Thom's solution does not work.

... and it hasn't been said yet.

I ASUME you did a Factory Data Reset after upgrading to Kit Kat. If you didn't then I think you know what the next step is.

If you did and you cleared the cache you could try running in Safe Mode disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them. If the problem disappears you have a BAD app casing the problem. If you haven't started from a "clean slate: with a Factory Data Reset then the results from Safe Mode may be unreliable.

If the Factory Data Rest was done then hardware failure does seem likely. The other steps will have to be done before they will agree to replace it (if it is a hardware problem).

When I bought the phone kit kat droped afew weeks earlier so first thing I did was update.. I tried the clearing cache and it did fix the few Grey pics in my download folder but the camera roll remained the same.. I'll try it again and see if it works

If you took it out of the box, turned it on, did the setup, and then immediately did the upgrade to Kit Kat then a Factory Data Reset should not be needed.

If you :did things" before doing the upgrade then it is possible that a Factory Data Reset will clear some unknown condition you induced.

(When I got my Droid Maxx there was a minor upgrade that had to be run immediately after going live.)

A quick respone here, just to let others know more about this problem. I know this is an old topic, but the Internet is now full of old topics that really could do with being deleted as they don't have any answers left to answer questions, andbody trying to find answers has to sift through hundreds of dead topics that waste our lives away reading :-(

Anyway, here's the deal.... this problem of photos turning into grey boxes isn't anything at all to do with updates, or specific cell phones/devices, or anything of that kind. Once it happens, you can change phones, shoes, hair colour, anything you like, and you can update till you're so good at it you can do it blind-folded ;-) but it won't make one bit of difference to those grey boxes/photos.

The problem relates to corrupted file information that's very specific in which files it affects. The details are complicated, but for now, it's enough to just let people know - Please don't go erasing cache memory, or formating cards, or applying updates etc. etc. None of it will affect the corrupted files.

The data is still there, the file does still have your pictures in there, but the information included in the file(s) is corrupt in a way thats giving your device the wrong details on how to view the picture. It can happen on video files too, but more often it's just photos.

For now, I just suggest the best recovery software to try (freeware) is from CGISECURITY, an open source software they have that does a great job at recovery, of all files, not just photos. For the best chance of having things get repaired (there are techinical reasons for this), please avoid 'any' use of the affected memory card/device, except by using the software mentioned above to do a recovery. Even accessing your photos in an Android gallery or Windows thumbnail on your phone/computer can help corrupt the information even further.

** this is just a quick reply, which I leave on lots of websites I come across asking about this kind of problem. I spent many weeks trying to recover files in the wrong way, and good information about this subject is very VERY hard to find.
