Moto G Play breaking open on left side

I'm not kidding. This really is a day for firsts. I can't use it to take a picture of it, but it's coming open at the lower left. I do want a phone I can open...some other way. I'm almost afraid to charge it. Other than that, it seems to be working normally.

It's the back, lower left. If it were an aorta, it would be dissecting. It has not been dropped, and has no case.

It sounds very much like the battery has puffed-up. And the only fix is to have it replaced ASAP. Recommend that you don't attempt to charge it, as swelled LiPo batteries are a potential fire hazard. Or if you do charge it, place it on something non-flammable and keep a fire extinguisher close by.

I was hoping it wouldn't be that. How the heck do I replace it, though? These things, it seems, are not meant to be opened. It's a couple of years old, from Walmart. I assume they do not provide such service. Other than that it works. I don't really want to go through the hell of replacing it.

Should I shut it off for now? Would rebooting make things worse? I left it on but not plugged in last night and it lost only one percentage point.

A net search paints a grim and even dangerous situation using a swollen Li-Ion battery. I've never dealt with the situation but I would seek professional help if it were my phone. Is it as dangerous as the net lets on? I would rather be safe than sorry.

I checked around a little but it's way too expensive, about a hundred bucks. I found a replacement battery from Walmart for less than twenty. How do I find somebody to install it?
