Software updates are extremely important and you may want to manually check for new updates from time to time. You can do this easily by following these steps:
  • Open the Settings app
  • Scroll down and select About phone
  • Tap on System updates
If no update is available, you'll see "Your device's software is up to date."

If an update is available, you can tap "YES, I'M IN" to begin downloading it immediately, but it's usually best to wait until you have a WiFi connection since updates consume a lot of data. While it's downloading, you can see the progress in your notification shade.

Once the update is downloaded, your phone will notify that it's finished and you will need to click "INSTALL" to begin installing it. These usually take more than a few minutes, so keep in mind that you wont be able to use your phone during this time.

Once your phone has finished installing the update, it will reboot and take you back to your lock screen.
