Moto X sale, $100 off

Clementine_3

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just got an email from Moto, sale coming if anyone is planning on getting a new phone.

48-hour sale begins June 4. For two days only, enjoy a savings of $100. Get a 32GB Moto X without a contract*starting at just $349.99.*This 48-hour sale starts on Wednesday, June 4 at 12:00am ET.

Where is this $349.99 price coming from? The current (pre-sale) price on the 32GB model on Motorola's site is $399.99. $100 off would make it $299.99.

Only the Republic Wireless 32GB version is $399, and it is currently on sale for $299. All the other models (unlocked, AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon) are $449 for 32 GB, and so are selling for $349 on sale.

You don't select the carrier until after you hit "checkout", so it is a bit of bait and switch on Motorola's part.

It's kinda shocking it still costs so much, but it really is a damn good phone.

But I am surprised it's the same price as the N5. At like $200 I would buy a second one just for rainy days or something.

Maybe when the X-1 comes out, or close to it, it'll go on sale for a really good price. If so, I may pick one up for a back-up as one of my lines is going to need a new phone soon-y-ish. Not going to get an X-1 for me though, I'm really sort of waiting for Project Ara, that has my name written all over it I think.

I thought about this too, before buying one for my son during this sale. Discounting an older model is done to create a bigger price gap between the new and the old, to encourage continued sales of the old. But if the new model comes out with a retail price comparable to what the Moto X started with, I think the current pricing (or slightly lower) will provide enough of a gap.
