Moto Z2 Force – Hide Apps Running in Background Icon​

A "feature" was added to Android 8.0 that lists all apps running in the background. It is associated wit a permeant icon on the notification bar. (This "feature" was apparently moved in Android 8.1.)

The following will remove the permeant icon from the notification bar and leave the entry at the bottom of the notification drop down …

System Settings
Tap Apps & notifications
Tap App info
Tap three dots in upper right
Tap Show system
Tap Android System
Tap App notification
Tap Apps running in the background
Tap Importance
Select Low
