Motoblur- Do I have to use it to sync?

I just saw that Motoblur syncs contacts and email..... Can't I just use the built-in Google software and sync my contacts and calander with gmail like I did with the captivate? What about my Hotmail? That always worked on my captivate fine without any such account. All I had to do was add the mail account directly to the Captivate. Thanks
 
You can use the built-in Google account stuff to sync your contacts. You can also view email accounts separately (if you have multiple Gmail accounts, for example). However, when you first set up the phone, it does make you set up a Motoblur account.
