Motoblur - essential?

Hello all,

Is the use of Motoblur essential on the Defy? I like the look of the Defy but I don't want to be forced to use an account like this. I have no need for it.

I read on Wikipedia that with later Motoblur devices, you don't need to register before using the devices, but it doesn't specify whether you still need to *eventually*?

Regards,
Richard.

Blur registration needs only an email address and password. You can just ignore Blur, as I did for months, or flash a de-blurred .sbf rom as I have also done. Blur does no harm though, I have it with the flash version I'm currently using, and the only minor ill-effects are extended boot time and I don't see the little green Android robot splash screen anymore.

Blur should not be a factor in any purchase decision, that I'm sure of.

Dunno why the hangup on motoblur? It works in the background, handles your facebook & other sync apps. You can locate the phone if stolen (provided the herbert who stole it switches on gps) & you can wipe it remotely.

I've tried various different launchers & was spending bare hours configuring them (too much to configure!), even more so on the paid ones!

If motoblur is sluggish I think that's the fault of your rom, not moroblur. Try updating to the latest, restoring factory settings or a custom rom. I always ended up going back to motoblur, ymmv.
