Moto thinks that google is shooting itself in the foot...so they want to make their own OS... i think a little to late..

without android the last 2 yrs... moto would be in a very rocky situation right now.

Rumor: Motorola Is Developing Its Own Mobile OS, Android “Shooting Itself In The Foot” | Android News, Reviews, Apps, Games, Phones, Tablets, Tips, Mods, Videos, Tutorials - Android Police

they cant see and learn from nokia???

moto should have gotten webOS...
that would have been a great marriage!

At the moment this is a rumor, and I would be very very surprised if it turned out to be true.

Honestly, Motorola hasn't seen year over year growth for 14 quarters prior to working with Android, and I don't think they are in any hurry to relive THAT experience.

"The insider cites Motorola’s frustration with Google’s support of manufacturers, Android’s fragmentation problems"

Motorola contribute to the fragmentation 'problems' with MotoBlur...

-EDIT-

"Asked to comment, Motorola did not deny the existence of the project but re-affirmed its interest in Android. "Motorola Mobility is committed to Android as an operating system," a company spokesperson said via email."

but dont you all think it would have been awesome, if moto and webos got together??? that would shake the wireless world!

Android may have saved Moto, but that doesn't mean they can't expand. I am reminded by the situation Apple had some years ago and were saved by Microsoft. In many ways, Apple has surpassed MS now...

I would love to see webos running on the X hardware! I so wanted to like the pre but the phone itself just felt like garbage.

I have used pre-Android Moto phones, and while the hardware is fine, their GUI is awful. Somehow, I doubt they could make an OS that was relevant. And if they drop Android, I'm sure I can find another hardware manufacturer who uses it.

I think you guys are over-reacting. Moto is just hedging their bets that's all. They'll continue to do droid and try to sell their own stuff too. If it flops, it flops, they'll still be in the droid business while tinkering with their other experiments. These kinds of activities aren't anything new to the tech industry by any means. Don't equate trying out new things with dropping Android, do you seriously think a company is just going to throw out droid without waiting to see how the other plan pans out first?

Besides, we're all gonners on 21 Dec next year anyway, so what do you have to lose? :D

I am creating my own OS. It is called "Bob" and it is based on Microsoft's Bob and Unix.

Anyone remember Symbian....? probably not. Same fate for Moto OS eventually

I remember Symbian all too well. I had several Symbian phones, most of them were utter garbage. Except the Nokia E71, which is the only decent Symbian phone I've ever used.

Most recently, I had a Nokia X6 that died on me after less then 2 days. Thankfully after a couple of harshly worded calls, my network gave in and gave me a Hero instead (which is what I wanted in the first place, but they said I wasn't eligible to upgrade to it!).

I don't really see how apple has surpassed MS...

I for the most part see two (different) companies each with their own market and different sets of products.

Microsoft makes an operating system which is open to anyone who wants to pay for it.

Apple makes a computer with their own custom operating system on it and really pushes a "brand" image.

Sure microsoft has zune and apple has an assortment of imusic devices..

However, I don't really think of the music world much.. I think of cowon or walkman for "audiophile quality" music and everything else as for people who want imitation smartphones.

Honestly.. at the end of the day.. lets be real...

Anyone who needs Microsoft is going to get microsoft, anyone who needs OSX is going to get OSX.

If you don't need either your free to pick whichever (or both)..

I really don't see either "surpassing" the other.. the truth is if you don't need either OS enough to justify it over the other, the truth is your just a sheep buying whoever you hear is "better".

NOTE: NOT CALLING APPLE OR MS USERS "SHEEP" CALLING ALL CONSUMERS SHEEP.
