Help Motorola Defy restore problem

Hello folks

Just got a replacement for my Motorola Defy after the speaker went. I did a backup before I exchanged it and have now tried a restore with the new phone. I select restore on the desktop app and nothing has changed! It cranked away for several minutes doing something. I've rebooted the phone and it is just as it was when I left the store.

What am I doing wrong?

After researching I find that this is simply a "media" sync. So I can backup and restore music to my phone.

I will now search for a backup/restore app.
