Motorola releases 4.4 for Verizon Moto X

Hooray!

Ok, can people finally stop saying that updates will only come on Verizon months after they come for everybody else? That Motorola does not support their phones well?

If anyone receives it who is also rooted, will you post up if you can re-root, or if the update doesn't disable root, or if OTA root keeper works?

This is a great sign for the future of this and other Motorola devices.

no we won't, one phone does not take away the other dozens of phones this happens to.

wow i haven't seen you in ages! how ya been man?

and first i'd like to get the update, so far it hasn't even been pushed to me yet.

Yeah I agree, one phone does not a trend make. But it is awesome. My N7 2013 hadn't even gotten the OTA yet.

My contributions to message boards has an inverse correlation to how busy I am at work... and lately I haven't been posting much, so you can draw your own conclusions!

Also, I didn't think Moto was particularly bad about updates. The Droid X got a couple updates back in the day, including an incremental Gingerbread update like 18 months after it was released.

I just checked for the update on my Moto X, and it's downloading now. Call me flabbergasted, lol. I mean, Verizon is ALWAYS late to the update party. Very interesting.

Honestly I am a tad bit annoyed. I have had my X for 2 months now and I'd like my Kit Kat please. What's the deal here why would other carriers have to wait? Is it not enough that Verizon got to do the $49.99 Motomaker deal?

This is a real kick in the teeth for those of us that did get to the party early and threw down our money.

SUP MOTO?

Wait.

You're annoyed that a manufacturer released a brand new update prior to any other 3rd party anywhere and even prior to some of the Nexus devices getting it?

Feeling a little entitled, maybe? You think nobody else threw down money, just because Verizon had a limited time Moto Maker deal? What about the people who didn't wait for Moto Maker and just bought stock versions at the same time you did?

Be realistic, here. Motorola can't dump it on all carriers across the board, all at once. Software releases generally need to be controlled if you want to keep your bandwidth and support costs reasonable. So they released it on Verizon. There are leaked versions for T-Mobile and AT&T, those versions are almost assuredly not very far behind.

hey i know the feeling, work and school has had me quite busy, but from time to time i will drop by and post a few things here and there.

The Google Launcher Experience is missing, and so is the enhanced dialer :(

I installed the Launcher from a thread on XDA, but the Dialer is still only searching locally :( but yay for 4.4!!! Now, seriously, how do I make the dialer work? :)

Can you post a screenshot similar to the one below from my Maxx?

Thanks.

Same issue with the dialer. It not searching local businesses. Only searches for contacts on your phone. Maybe it a Nexus 5 feature only.

Anywho super excited to have Kitkat now.

The dialer is there, but the search functionality of it is not. The dialer is not pulling results from the web, local businesses, etc. It's just pulling results from my phone. Is there a setting I should turn on?

Looks like I picked the perfect time to join the Moto X club. Ordered my MotoMaker X on Friday and expecting it to arrive tomorrow. Can't wait!!

Calm down there cowboy! :D
My post was somewhat tongue in cheek hence the  ... That said I am a bit spoiled by Moto and I will admit it, generally speaking AT&T has gotten the early roll out with other phones on software updates. With the X ... not so much, Tmobile got the camera software first now VZ gets Kit Kat, I just want my goodies...

But I am excited to see what everyone thinks of the new release.

Can someone tell me how they get screenshots/images onto this thing? I tried uploading/attaching but it said I needed to resize it, and that's too much work. Here is a link to the pic lol
My phone takes .png screenshots. I load them into PaintShop Pro and convert them to .jpg files. I then just upload them.

If you can scroll to the bottom of the Moto X screen and take the shot that would be helpful.

Just a warning for those who don't have a dev version. Obtaining root on 4.4 gets significantly harder due to the new secure kernel being implemented with it. Taking the ota could remove root and it could possibly be a while before getting it back if at all.

Edit: Merged similar threads.

Ah, gotcha. I just noticed that it doesn't pull in business results. That's pretty strange. It might just be a Nexus 5 exclusive for now. :(
