Root Mounting storage...

Can somebody help me with pushing SU file to the internal storage of my Nexus?

I unlocked bootloader and flashed TWRP 2.7.0.0

The phone erased, as said but now it refuses to boot. I can still communicate with fastboot and access recovery. I forgot to throw the SU file on the phone before I did the unlock... :( So, was hoping to flash SU and a ROM to see if this thing would boot again. Recovery keeps puking up a bunch of 'could not mount' errors. Is this because of no root or is this phone junk?

What device did you have and can u get into the recovery cause u can flash a super Su app zip in recovery and ROM of choice

Nexus 5. I can access recovery and bootloader menu.

I can't flash SU or a ROM because neither are in the phone storage. Can't boot phone up to do a PTP/MTP transfer. I just need to know if there is a way to push/dd the SU app and/or ROM through fastboot. I can figure out the command lines, I'm unsure of the file path/partition to drop them.

I was asking do you have the Su zip you will need to side load if you have the recovery set up the correct way and you will need to know cmd on the PC

This is a video so you can stop and go as you please

Your N5 is definitely OK. At worst you'll have to flash back to the stock image and start over.

First try reflashing TWRP again through fastboot, rename TWRP 2.7 to just recovery.img, boot to fastboot and then
Type:

fastboot devices

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Once you reflash TWRP try this -
Rename the ROM that you want to flash to just rom.zip and then put the rom.zip and SuperSU.zip in the android-sdk/platform tools/ folder.

Boot to recovery,
Open command prompt and type:

adb devices

adb push rom.zip /sdcard/

adb push SuperSU /sdcard/

Once everything has been pushed type:

adb reboot recovery

Now you should be able to click on "Install zip" and just navigate to the root of the sdcard and both the rom.zip and SuperSU.zip will be there and flash away.

After you did the unlock, did you let the device completely reboot?

Maybe that's what I did. I think right after unlock I pushed the recovery, then rebooted right into recovery from there to see if it works. After that crap on TWRP displayed, I rebooted, and it just sat on boot screen doing nothing else.

I managed to find hammerhead firmware, all set now. Going to try steps you mentioned above, flashing SU and DU ROM in a few min, after I decide which recovery I should use...... speaking of that, Is there really any advantage using TWRP over CWM?

Again, thanks guys ;)

TWRP and Philz touch recovery (CWM based) I personally think are better than CWM. They have better features, both support OTG and side loading, where as regular CWM doesnt. So you could use the same commands in my previous post, but you use sideload instead of push.

adb sideload rom.zip

adb sideload SuperSU.zip

It's handy...
TWRP also has the efs backup option built into the recovery. Which is something very important for you to do. CWM has a flashable zip package that you use to backup the efs.
TWRP backups are easier to extract off the phone too. The backup is in one folder... Where on CWM it broken up and can be a pain to pull it off the phone and onto a PC.

Edit:
Also to add, if your going to flash the Dirty Unicorns ROM you don't need to adb push the SuperSU.zip, DU is already rooted, has SuperSU and BusyBox built in, so it's not necessary to flash SuperSU.

Just for clarification too. The actual command to push SuperSU is:

adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-vX.XX.zip /sdcard/

X.XX would be the SuperSU version.
Just wanted to clear that up. Lol

Awesome :) Thank you. I got everything down here and mostly back to normal, only item left is shaking Ting Mobile up for locking my phone down. Maybe they can tell me what is stopping my phone from acknowledging any GSM network. I really hope they cooperate with me on this.

You welcome!
So did you end up trying to change the network mode to "Global"? Or did that not work?

I find it strange that a gsm sim card wouldn't work, as this basically configures the network settings automatically and tells the phone what to do... Unless it's an older model metro sim card. The N5 requires the newer one, so that might be the problem if you have the old one.
Sprint (CDMA) uses the APN setting to recognise/register on the network and the IUCC card is for the LTE.

Tried every Metro GSM chip in my house and same thing. And after going back and forth with the Ting army, flashing all new stuff and still same crap, nothing works. I've come to the conclusion that somehow my phone got locked or user inaccessible settings were changed while Ting flashed my carrier profile. My nexus was unlocked and read Metro gsm chips until that point.

Also, my Nexus was a Best Buy Sprint model, one that Ting says can not be activated on their network. But somehow it made it through provisioning. Maybe that had something to do with it? I wanted to try N5 field settings tester, but I really didn't want to go that far, I've been down that road and almost destroyed a couple of phones playing with those settings.

Ahh I see... Well that stinks!
Something must have happened during the provisioning then.
Yeah and you definitely got to be careful when messing with the field test settings.

Yep, that was the reason. Unlocking the bootloader sets a custom boot chain in progress that needs the stock recovery in order to proceed (because it needs to wipe the device clean). By flashing the custom recovery, you break this chain and it sits in limbo until it can be completed. The way out of it is to either reflash the stock recovery from the factory image, or the full factory image from the bootloader which is what was done.

Glad things got worked out in the end

Well, they haven't worked out completely yet. It still won't read a GSM card....

Are there any settings (ones I REALLY shouldn't touch) that will maybe get this thing to read a SIM? Maybe SIM tool kit? I get FC trying to open the STK, maybe root is needed?

This is getting silly. I'm at that point where if I brick this thing, I'd feel better about throwing it in the trash than just being stuck with Sprint alone. I can't think of anything else to do with this phone.

:(

I think you can only use the STK if the SIM card/network carrier supports this feature. That might be why it FC's on you. Unless there is something else going on.

Couple more suggestions for you too...

Have you tried switching the SIM cards while the phone is powered on?

Try booting into safe mode and switching the SIM cards. It's possible that there might be an app that's blocking you and causing the "Restricted Access Changed" error.

I know that you probaly already know and have tried this but just in case.... Make sure that in Network Settings that "Data and Roaming Data" are both enabled.

Just wondering if you ended up getting recovery and DU installed?
If so, I would highly recommend backing up your N5's EFS. Just in case something happens.
The EFS partition contains your MEID/IMEI, modem/radio settings and data profile.
The EFS is completely unique to your N5 only, another EFS backup from a different N5 will not restore your EFS partition.

If you have TWRP 2.7 installed, boot to recovery and select "Backup" and then you just want to backup only the EFS. So uncheck all the partitions to be backed up except for "EFS" once the EFS is backed up make sure to save a separate copy of it off of the phone. Either to your PC, cloud storage... etc.

If you ended up installing CWM, you can use this flashable zip package that will backup the EFS.
Just follow the directions in the tread - [MODEM] [EFS] Nexus 5 Flashable Modems and E

Also a TWRP EFS backup can't be flashed on CWM and vice versa. So if you switch recoveries, you'll want to make a separate EFS backup for that installed recovery.

I just flashed DU. I did back up my EFS, just have to remember to move it to my PC, since every time I TGZ this thing it wipes the EFS from my internal storage lol....

Sprint has a bunch of hidden test and field menus on my phone, and it seems to lock my phone into CDMA mode and no easily accessible setting will change it. The phone keeps looking for the Sprint card and network even after TGZ, factory reset, radio flash, airplane mode toggle etc... It refuses to boot up in GSM no matter what I do.

So now, seems I'm stuck with Sprint until I can figure out how to wipe out the Sprint program settings. I have the code to access them, but I'm not sure which ones to change. Bummer.

Update:

I talked with Sprint. Seems that since I used the Sprint UICC to sign on with Ting Mobile (Sprint MVNO for those who don't know) that somehow during provisioning, Sprint did me a solid and blocked my phone from accessing any Gsm networks. So now, they strong-armed my device that I paid for in full, mind you... And now when I personally requested that they unlock my device, they said because I didn't meet the criteria:

Haven't had 3 months of continuous service

Balance isn't current

Not even a Sprint customer

No Sprint login

They won't unlock it, and, get this.... Can't do OTA unlock because it's not registered on "the" Sprint network, but had no problem locking it through Ting's provision process... But I am free to pay some back alley butcher to unlock it if I choose.
Gotta love these giant carriers... This nexus experience has left a pretty sour taste here. So much for a device that can be used freely anywhere anyhow on any network. Everybody I've asked for help, including Google and Best Buy have pretty much said it's in Sprint's hands now. Fantastic.

Do u have stock on it or custom ROM

Doesn't matter what I use. My phone will not accept a GSM card. DU, stock, stock rooted, pre-updated krt16M 4.4HH firmware, safe mode, nothing will work around it. My guess is those program files are written in a partition somewhere inaccessible to me.

The only options I have are to pay $50+ to have somebody unlock it, use QPST and try to break the Sprint programming lock myself, or sign up with Sprint on a contract. Either way may break it, or push more money into a phone that doesn't even seem worth what I have initially spent on it.

To answer your question it's sitting on my desk, freshly TGZ'd back to factory kot49h
