Movies!

I can't BELIEVE that in this day and age, that i can't DOWNLOAD movies (even if i PAY $) to my Galaxy TAB4. Is Samsung the ONLY vendor that isn't up to speed on this yet?!!? Sure, i can STREAM movies, but what about watching a movie on an airplane and such, where i can't use wifi or stream. Can it be that there is NO way to download movies to my TAB4 device and watch them later? I can't believe this!

I think you can though. Just the same as you can keep music offline (downloaded to device). They just make it a bit harder than streaming to discourage piracy but it can be done.

You don't say what you have tried.
Amazon offers free digital downloads as a bonus when you purchase select DVD (and BluRay?) titles.
Also, you can always transfer movies (in various formats) from a PC/Mac to the sd card.

ok. how do i do that? do you know?

Hehe, I never have used that app but I've seen people who do say they have done it. Ancius gave a great alternate idea too. I know Amazon media can be saved to phone because I've done that with mp3s.
ETA: I wasn't sure if Amazon had movies before I suggested Google.

I've ripped a bunch of DVDs over the years in full DVD res. Haven't done BluRays yet, as I haven't got around to getting an apropos spec PC to handle that. But yes, google play does allow movie downloads, as well as my nook account. The nook one disallows HD downloads, but lets me watch those on my PC.

Some DVDs and Blu-rays offer something called "Ultraviolet" downloads, which is a DRM'd digital download that comes with some discs. Usually a coupon with a code. Although when I tried to do one, couldn't do it because I wasn't in the country where the DVD was originally purchased, UK. So I just ripped the DVD instead.

MOST devices simply don't have the capacity to hold too many full length movies, that's why streaming is more popular. As others have mentioned, you can rip your own movies and transfer them to your device. Good luck!

I hope you realize that what you're asking is not Samsung's problem nor their responsibility. They neither restrict nor directly provide you with the means of downloading movies, or any other types of video. Anything "can" be downloaded. That's the beauty of Android. You just have to figure out where to find what it is you're looking for. That's what the Internet is for. All Samsung does is supply the hardware.

And Google Play's streaming policy has nothing to do with Samsung or their tablets. They're two separate companies. The fact of the matter is, media distribution is shifting away from tangible ownership and more towards remote access. It's the next step in the evolution of media, from cassettes & vhs (when I came along), to CDs & DVDs, to MP3s & MP4s, to streaming for everything (though I'm not TOO fond of this myself). Getting ahold of media files requires a bit more "outside the box" resourcefulness these days.

In Play Movies one should be able to click the little 'push pin' icon to download a movie and view it offline. It's sad how Google uses such vague means to identify something like 'keep on device' and not disclosing whatever icon or gesture is for that function. There are times that I feel I'm searching for Easter eggs where there should be vital functions. I really hate how Google does that.

To me, a push pin means 'pin to home/pin to folder' as a shortcut or bookmark. not the 'keep on device' function. A downward pointing arrow would make more sense. But who knows what goes on in the minds of those at Google.
